At the 88 annual Samsun-Sivas Thick railway line, which was founded by the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 4 started with the support of European Union (EU) grants.
LINE TO ANATOLIA
The European Union (EU) grants on the railway line, which is the largest project realized outside the borders of the EU, is being carried out daily on trial tracks on the renewed rails. The Samsun-Sivas (Kalın) line, one of the two railway lines of the Black Sea to Anatolia, will be used for cargo transportation from the ports in the region as well as the passenger.
Transportation speed around the modernization will be increased from 60 kilometers to 100 kilometers. Daily train capacity will increase from 21 to 54, annual passenger capacity will be from 95 million to 168 million, and freight traffic will increase from 657 million tons to 867 million tons. On the route where travel time will be reduced from 9.5 hours to 5 hours, the level crossings are automatically barrier-free, while the platforms are improved to EU standards in accordance with disabled access.
MADE WITH EU FUND
4 prepared a modernization project for Samsun-Kalın Railway line with the support of EU grant funds. With the project, the 40 historical bridge was restored and the rail, sleeper, ballast, scissors superstructure of the line, which underwent improvement works in 2 thousand 476 meters length tunnel, was changed.
TO BE OPENED IN NOVEMBER
AK Party Samsun Deputy Orhan Kırcalı said, “During the modernization works, due to the geographical conditions of our region, there were some difficulties. These problems also extended the process of entering the line. Teams are working on 7 / 24, struggling to get the line in service as soon as possible. According to the latest information, the line will be re-opened in November. Approximately 9 half an hour after this work will be reduced to 5 hours. There will be huge savings in time and fuel.
