Kanpur Metro Line 2 Project Gains Speed

The Kanpur Metro Line 2 project has entered an important phase with Efkon India being awarded the contract for the line’s electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems. This development marks a critical milestone in the expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s urban transport network and will strengthen connectivity in South Kanpur.

Kanpur Metro Expands with Efkon India E&M Contract

On 7 November 2025, Efkon India received the formal Letter of Acceptance from Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) to execute the E&M systems of Line 2. this important 8.38 km long route will connect the University of Agriculture to Barra-8, significantly increasing the capacity of urban transport.

The contract covers vital electrical and mechanical works for the Double Pulia, Kakadeo and Rawatpur Railway Station underground metro stations along the route. This includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of diesel generators, environmental control systems, tunnel ventilation and building management systems.

Kanpur Metro Contract Proposal and Financial Overview

Five companies submitted their technical bids in April 2025 for the tender launched by UPMRCL earlier this year. After rigorous evaluation rounds, Efkon India was the lowest bidder (L1) with a bid of $19.7 million.

The competitors’ offers are as follows:

  • Blue Star $21.2 million
  • Kalpataru Projects: 21.4 million dollars
  • Universal MEP: $27.8 million

In this project, Efkon India aims to implement highly efficient systems to improve reliability and optimise energy use. The project plans to integrate intelligent management systems to reduce emissions and improve safety in metro operations, where energy performance and cost control are vital.

Experts see this deal as part of a more comprehensive urban mobility transformation of Kanpur. The growth of the Kanpur Metro network continues to promote faster, more environmentally friendly and safer public transport options for the people of the region.
