Indonesia Pushes for Safer Rail Networks Amid Rising Risks
The Indonesian government has launched a comprehensive national safety program targeting its expanding railway network, which currently faces significant safety challenges. With over 3,600 railway crossings scattered across the archipelago, authorities are aggressively working to eliminate hazards and improve overall safety standards.

Indonesia’s railway system comprises nearly 3,675 crossings—many of which lack basic safety features. To mitigate these dangers, authorities have already permanently closed 172 crossings deemed highly hazardous.
