The new energy infrastructure project in Gansu province connected the eastern and western power lines, completely integrating the region’s power grid with a total of approximately 200 kilometers of transmission lines. In this context, the commissioning of the Baiyin zone is of great importance because this segment ensures the uninterrupted connection of the 4.5 gigawatts of increased renewable energy capacity installed in the center of Gansu with the UHV (ultra-high voltage) trunk lines. Thus, the electricity produced by wind and solar energy sources in the West can be transported with high efficiency to large consumption centers thousands of kilometers away.

With the completion of this projectIt is aimed to transfer more than 11 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually to Shantung and other eastern and central Chinese provinces. The increase in transfer volume will allow saving approximately 3.5 million tons of standard coal and preventing 9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. These developments represent an important step towards meeting the country’s carbon reduction targets while easing pressure on the energy supply of Shandong, one of China’s largest electricity consumers.

Energy Efficiency with Advanced Technology and Infrastructure Investments

The high-strength aluminum alloy conductors used in the project increased the carrying capacity by approximately 30%, thus increasing the energy transmission efficiency. In addition, mobile umbrella-type transition platforms, implemented for the first time, increased efficiency in the line laying process by 70 percent and significantly reduced the number of employees during field work. Thanks to these technological developments, costs were reduced and the sustainability of the infrastructure was ensured.

Gansu province aims to reach a total of 80 gigawatts of new renewable energy capacity by 2025, in line with its long-term energy plan. In this context, it is planned to establish a new base in energy production and equipment production at the national level and to pioneer the development of advanced energy technologies in the region. This project lays the foundation of a clean and sustainable energy infrastructure by contributing to the energy transformation of the region and the country.
