The Ministry of National Defence (MND) has signed an important contract with Marshall Aerospace, a British engineering company, for the maintenance and repair activities of C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft procured second-hand from the UK. The agreement aims to strengthen Turkey’s tactical airlift capabilities and ensure the mission adequacy of the new fleet.
12 Aircraft to Receive Maintenance and Training Support
Within the scope of the contract, the technical maintenance, repair and spare parts operations of the 12 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft procured will initially be carried out by Marshall Aerospace. Another strategic pillar of the cooperation is the acquisition of domestic maintenance capability. Marshall will provide training to relevant Turkish personnel so that the maintenance of the aircraft can be carried out by Turkey in the future.
Commenting on the agreement, Bob Baxter, CEO of Marshall Aerospace, said that they are pleased to keep Turkey’s modern tactical airlift fleet mission-ready and emphasised that the contract reinforces Marshall’s position as the leading provider of lifetime fleet support in the global C-130 community.
Critical “Wingbox” Renewal and Local Partnership Preparation
Marshall will work in partnership with UK Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) in the maintenance and engineering activities. Before the C-130Js enter the Turkish Air Force inventory, the company will renew the centre wing box (wingbox) that connects the fuselage and the two main wings of the aircraft, which is critical for flight safety and longevity.
Marshall also acts as the “Main Retail Partner” in the resale process of C-130J aircraft, working with the units responsible for the management of the British Army’s weapon systems. This includes the preparation of the aircraft for sale, maintenance and logistical support. This contract with Turkey stands out as a critical step in the modernisation of the military transport fleet.
