Izmir 1st International Sharing Economy Summit Held

The 1st International Sharing Economy Summit was held with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor at the Summit Tunç Soyer“We cannot build a fruitful life without acting with a common mind. We cannot defeat poverty. The basis of the sharing economy is also based on collaboration, that is, the act of many people with a common mind.” The 1st International Sharing Economy Summit, organized by the Sharing Economy Association (PAYDER) with the support of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, started at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Culture and Art Center (AASSM). Izmir Innovation and Technology Inc., one of the companies of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. and İZELMAN A.Ş., the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality contributed to the event. Tunç Soyer, PAYDER Chairman of the Board İbrahim Aybar, Honorary President of the Third Sector Foundation of Turkey (TÜSEV) Prof. Dr. Superior Erguder, Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay, economist and writer Emin Çapa, İZELMAN A.Ş. General Manager Burak Alp Ersen, former vice president of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Sırrı Aydoğan, bureaucrats of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, economists and experts attended.

He started his words by saying, “Let the wolf go to the bird”

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerHe started his words by saying, “Wolf, bird, asha”. Stating that this short sentence used by Anatolian women to scatter seeds on the ground contains two fundamental secrets about how all life should be built, Mayor Soyer said, “First, there is no production without sharing. Secondly, two-thirds of what we produce does not belong to us, but to the universe. As soon as this mathematics is broken, the mathematics of life is also confused and the planet becomes uninhabitable. The sharing economy, in my opinion, is humanity's greatest déjà vu. It is the bankruptcy of the centralist philosophy that has driven the world to an inevitable end, and the rediscovery of the 'imece' culture of our species," he said.

“It does not bring prosperity and peace to anyone”

President Soyer said that the "accumulation economy", which inflicts very difficult wounds on nature, societies and individuals, promises wealth to people: This picture, which almost reflects the process of cancerization, does not bring prosperity and peace to anyone. It takes away the bread and safety of all of us, and the health of our planet. There is a determination that created this sick planet and is the basic paradigm of economics. Resources are limited, needs are unlimited. Is it true? Doesn't the search for resources in harmony with nature offer endless possibilities? Isn't the sun, wind, sea wave, hydrogen heralds of endless resources? But are the needs really unlimited? Or is it the hegemony or trap of capitalist production relations that makes us insatiable when it is possible to live by consuming much less?”

“It means a lot to us that it is held in Izmir”

Emphasizing that in order to understand the sharing economy, it is necessary to describe its main output from the very beginning, President Soyer said, “Out of course, it should be abundance that increases as we share, rather than wealth that decreases as it grows. Perhaps for this reason, we can describe this economic paradigm, both new and very old, as the 'economy of abundance'. Abundance means healing together, not alone, being united when many, and sharing the welfare of the world fairly. At the World Union of Municipalities Culture Summit held in Izmir in September 2021, we made a culture recipe that included all these things and we called it cyclical culture. Circular culture is on all fours. Harmony with one another, harmony with our nature, harmony with our past and harmony with change. I believe that this sharing economy, whose main promise is to preserve abundance, is one of the most important practices of circular culture. For this reason, organizing this meeting in İzmir means a lot to us. On the other hand, I believe that the topics that will be discussed here today will make a very important contribution to the Second Century Economics Congress that we will organize in February 2023. If it is confused, the singular mind will be confused. The common sense has never been seen to be confused. We cannot build a fruitful life without acting with a common mind. We cannot defeat poverty. The basis of the sharing economy is also based on collaboration, that is, the act of many people with a common mind.”

“Sharing is an important behavior in our culture”

İbrahim Aybar, Chairman of the Board of PAYDER, said, “Today we will talk about sharing and creating economic values by sharing. Sharing is an important behavior in our culture. Today we will look at the side of sharing that creates more economic value. “We see the greatest support in our journey from the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. I would like to thank my President Tunç.”

“Does anyone want this world?”

Emphasizing the necessity of sharing, economist and writer Emin Çapa said, “We have to build another world. For this we have to build another human being. The future is something that is built,” he said. Expressing that the income distribution has reached a terrible point in the world and the economy has ceased to be sustainable, Emin Çapa said, “Does anyone want this world? "This world is not possible even for capitalism," he said.

“We need to own it together”

Speaking about the development of philanthropy in Turkey, Honorary President of TUSEV Prof. Dr. Üstün Ergüder, on the other hand, gave information about the education reform initiative he contributed to years ago and said, “Currently, 16 foundations and associations support the education reform. If something is going to be done in education in Turkey, we have to embrace it together. This is also a share. You are aiming for social change here. It was hard to find money for it, but it happened. The partnership project is out,” he said. EKAR Founding President Vilhelm Hedberg also conveyed the new developments in transportation sharing and emphasized the importance of environmentally friendly systems.
