Coffee is one of the most frequently consumed beverages we all consume during the day. Thanks to the caffeine and antioxidant components in its content, its protective effect from diseases such as heart diseases, cancer, Alzheimer's and dementia has been known for years. However, thanks to its stimulating content, it increases physical and mental performance.

Of course, one of the things we are most curious about is the effect of the coffee we consume during the day on our weight.

Many studies show that caffeine helps to lose weight due to its metabolism-accelerating and stimulating effects. However, this activity does not have a very high rate. In order for coffee to support weight loss, it should not contain components such as sugar, cream, milk, flavoring syrup.

Recent studies, on the other hand, show that consuming too much caffeine has a negative effect on insulin levels and increases lubrication. Also, consuming too much coffee can increase blood pressure. It can cause your body to collect edema.

So how much coffee can you consume while on a diet?

Consuming 2-3 cups of coffee a day supports fat loss, while consuming 4-5 cups of coffee or more causes fat increase and edema of the body. Of course, it is very important for your diet that the coffee consumed is without milk, cream and sugar.

Each type of coffee contains different amounts of caffeine. Caffeine amounts of coffee varieties that you can consume in the diet:

  • 1 cup of Turkish coffee: 65 mg (can be consumed 3 times a day)
  • Filter coffee 120 mg (2 cups can be consumed per day)
  • Espresso 130 mg (2 cups can be consumed per day)
  • Americano 100 mg (2 cups can be consumed per day)

Do not think that unsweetened black coffee is harmless, the important thing is the amount of caffeine in its content. To lose weight, you should not exceed 2-3 cups.

Expert Dietitian Melike Çetintaş said, “Be careful not to drink coffee right after meals. Because the tannins in coffee also prevent the absorption of iron in our body. In order to prevent this situation, it would be the best option to drink 1,5-2 hours after meals.”
