Artist Ahmet Güneştekin's “Gavur Mahallesi” exhibition, hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, opens its doors at the Kulturpark Atlas Pavilion tomorrow. In the exhibition, which will remain open until March 5, 2023, large-scale installations and videos and sculpture works made with the main theme of exchange will meet with art lovers.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will host Ahmet Güneştekin's “Gavur Mahallesi” exhibition. The exhibition, which will open tomorrow at Kültürpark Atlas Pavilion, can be visited until March 5, 2023. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor will attend the opening to be held at 18.00:XNUMX. Tunç Soyer will also attend. Şener Özmen is the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition, which was opened in cooperation with the Güneştekin Foundation, will showcase large-scale installations, video works and sculptures in which metal forms are completed with stone. A comprehensive book to be published by Güneştekin Foundation will accompany the exhibition.
Exhibition highlights cultural diversity
Ahmet Güneştekin explains that discriminatory practices, as in all mass displacements after the population exchange and its aftermath, became more visible with international waves of refugees and migrants. Gavur Mahallesi offers the opportunity to understand the historical, cultural and political effects of being human. While establishing a relationship with form, material and surface through a multidisciplinary work, he creates a space to look at the past through the eyes of otherness by examining the past with the present.
