Mediterranean Sustainable Cities and Regions Agency Seminar to be Held in Izmir

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will host the international seminar of the Mediterranean Sustainable Cities and Regions Agency, which carries out urban and regional cooperation in the Mediterranean, between 21-25 November. In the seminar, social solidarity, agriculture, nature, cittaslow metropolis, climate change, clean energy and zero waste policies will be discussed.

The Mediterranean Sustainable Cities and Regions Agency (AVITEM), which carries out urban and regional cooperation in the Mediterranean and includes institutions and organizations such as the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Europe, the Municipality of Marseille and the Euroméditerranée Public Development Agency, is in Izmir, hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. It will hold an international seminar on 21-25 November 2022. An international delegation of approximately 25 people, consisting of city management experts, bureaucrats, diplomats, academics and civil society officials, is expected to attend the seminar, which will be held in cooperation with organizations such as the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Mediterranean Integration Center (CMI).

Izmir's strategic vision will be discussed

In the seminar; İzmir's strategic vision, historical, geographical and urban development, as well as the policies of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality aimed at increasing social solidarity and eliminating social inequalities, Cittaslow Metropol practices, clean energy policies, activities in the fields of culture, agriculture and nature, and its institutional structure based on citizen participation. Collaborations with civil society will be discussed. Izmir solidarity will be explained

After the Opening Ceremony, between 10.30-11.15 hours, under the moderation of President Advisor Onur Eryüce, Prof. Dr. The session titled “Social Economy: Social Economy Experiences and Good Practices” will be held with the participation of Aylin Çiğdem Köne, Akın Erdoğan from the Zeytince Association for Supporting Ecological Life, and Ünal Örnek from the Turkish National Cooperatives Union. In the session; In today's conditions, where competition-based liberal economies cannot provide solutions to issues such as climate, social inequalities and unemployment, and the social economy is gaining importance, the solidarity policies of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the elimination of regional and social inequalities will be discussed. In addition, the outputs of the cooperation between Mediterranean cities and regional actors for the development of the social economy will be discussed, and the importance of experiences, joint projects, networks and working methods among regional actors will be discussed.

Ecological agriculture studies will be monitored in Bergama

Within the scope of the seminar, a panel on the sustainable public transportation policy and solutions of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will be held on Monday, November 21, at 15.45. Within the scope of the program, Demirköprü, one of the Metropolitan's Cittaslow Metropol Pilot neighborhoods, will be visited, the works of TARKEM will be examined, the cleaning works in the Gulf and the climate change and zero waste policy of the Metropolitan will be held. A trip to Bergama will also be organized to examine İZDOGA's producer-oriented ecological agriculture policies. On the last day of the seminar program, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Councilor and Chairman of the Gender Equality Commission, Nilay Kökkılınç, will make a presentation on the institutional structure, projects and strategic goals of the Metropolitan Municipality. The Mayor of Foça, Fatih Gürbüz, will talk about Foça's relations with the Metropolitan Municipality, as a municipality with a low population. Ece Aylin Büker from the Mediterranean Academy will attend the session, and the decisive role of the Metropolitan in the joint cultural studies of the Mediterranean will be discussed through academic circles.
