More than 300 architects and art historians took part in the works carried out in Sur in order to preserve the historical texture.

Diyarbakir Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Nurullah Bilgin gave information about the works carried out by the Ministry in Sur and said, “When you compare the photographs between the old version of the Sur and the new version, all these monumental works are completely occupied around them, they do not offer any makeshift engineering services. It was full of unseen buildings. All these areas were cleared and the silhouette of Diyarbakır Castle was revealed. When the works are completed by our General Directorate of Infrastructure Urban Transformation Services, Mass Housing Administration (TOKİ), General Directorate of Construction Affairs and İlbank, Sur with its mosques, inns and churches will be a complete open-air museum.” used his statements.

Historical artifacts were unearthed with all these works. Social areas, sports facilities and schools were built in the region. The green areas were increased, and a National Garden was built between the historical Diyarbakır Walls and Hevsel Gardens.”
