Bringing together the creative leaders of the world, “Brand Week Istanbul” is hosting its important guests with the theme of “Time to Begin Again” this year. The pioneer of the 'Grow Your Dreams' project, academician and non-governmental volunteer Dr. Dilek İmamoğlu spoke about gender and equal opportunities in education for girls at the Brand Week event. The session of “Enlarge Your Dreams: Let's Create an Equal World Together”, in which clinical psychologist Gökhan Çınar, one of the authors of Inspiring Steps book, and musician Harun Tekin, one of the supporters of the project, participated as speakers, was moderated by Pelin Özkan, one of the authors of the book Inspiring Steps.

“866 THOUSAND GIRLS CAN'T EDUCATE”

Expressing that every investment made in education has a very valuable return, Dr. Imamoglu, in our country

He mentioned that not every child has equal access to the right to education. For these reasons, İmamoğlu talked about how they set out with the motto "We can create an equal world together" and explained how the "Grow Your Dreams" project was shaped. Sharing the information that 866 thousand girls in our country cannot reach education, İmamoğlu continued his speech as follows:

“When we look sociologically, we see that early marriages, family pressure and economic inadequacies primarily affect the lives of girls. For these reasons, the priority of our project, which we started with the Istanbul Foundation, was girls. We set out to encourage girls across Turkey to encourage their courage and to support their struggle for education and labor, by saying “Grow Your Dreams” to our girls.”

THE PROJECT CREATING ITS OWN RESOURCE

Underlining that every book purchased means a girl's education life, Dr. İmamoğlu said, “It is very important for us that our book is sold and that it reaches our farthest child. In addition, we provide our scholarship students with the opportunity to work part-time in important cultural and artistic areas of Istanbul, if they wish. We organize many events, training programs and panels that will strengthen them socially in order to contribute to the young people being self-confident, equipped, open to development and new ideas.”

“WE ARE UNDER EVERYTHING WE COVER”

Clinical psychologist Gökhan Çınar, one of the authors of the Book Enlarge Your Dreams, stated that girls who dream for their future but whose dreams are suppressed are frequently encountered in our country and continued as follows:

“When we ask girls who are victims of violence or who have been deprived of their right to education in early marriages about their childhood dreams, they come up with very good dreams and professions. Unfortunately, they could not even go to school due to inequality and obstacles. I know that we are under everything we cover up. In other words, every woman, every girl, whom we do not give the right to education, will unfortunately feed the dark side of this country in transmission from generation to generation.”

Musician Harun Tekin, one of the project supporters, also mentioned the importance of early marriage, financial inadequacies, family and culture issues in children's education and said, “There are tens of thousands of children who cannot realize themselves for these reasons. For these reasons, there are tens of millions of people in our society who continue to live unhappily.

THE GOAL “GROWTH HAS HOME HIS DREAMS”

Explaining the stages that the project will take from now on, Dr. Dilek İmamoğlu stated that they aim for the book to reach children all over Turkey and to be a project that goes beyond the borders of Turkey. Noting that the Grow Your Dreams Student Dormitory will be opened soon, İmamoğlu said, “We aim that not a single child living within the borders of the Republic of Turkey will be left without education. For this reason, while young people grow their own dreams, we continue to work for them with great enthusiasm.”
