The citizens, who had to evacuate their villages and migrate to other provinces in the 1990s due to the terrorist incidents in Şırnak, started to return with the peace and security provided by the state in the region years later.

After the peace and security was ensured in 1990 villages that were evacuated due to the attacks of the separatist terrorist organization PKK in the 47s in Şırnak, telephone, electricity, water, sewerage and road works were started by the Şırnak Governor's Office. Due to the pressures of PKK terrorists in Şırnak and its 6 districts, there were migrations and evacuations from 1990 villages, mostly on Gabar Mountain, in the 47s. With the clearing of the region from terrorism and the construction of village roads and infrastructure, returns began.

Villagers who could not find the peace they sought in the places where they migrated, cultivate their own lands in their villages, where they returned years later, and produce vegetables and fruits in their gardens as well as dealing with livestock.

The Governor of Şırnak, Osman Bilgin, stated that the works are continuing and said, “There were villages in Şırnak in the 90s that had to be emptied due to fear of terrorism or the threat of terrorism. The number of these villages in Şırnak was 47. 47 villages were evacuated for various reasons. Since then, we, as the Ministry of Interior, have been arranging these damages to them because they could not cultivate their villages due to the damages they suffered from terrorism within the scope of the law. However, in the last period, we see that there are very good things in this peaceful environment in our city, together with the environment of trust and security provided by our country. In this context, we are opening 47 of 40 villages across our province for settlement immediately. Our citizens, who wish, will be able to come to their villages, build their houses, and operate their fields, vineyards and gardens there. In this context, we immediately tendered 120 kilometers of roads and 30 kilometers, and we continue to do so. We are working on the remaining part. At the same time, relevant institutions started to work on issues such as electricity, drinking water, sewage, potable water, irrigation of gardens and telephone services. We are also happy that our citizens are satisfied. We're getting positive feedback," he said.

Stating that they returned to the village after nearly 30 years of longing and started farming and stockbreeding again, 80-year-old Ali Meşe said, “We have been living in Kayaboyun village since our grandfathers. We had to leave our village due to terrorism. We stayed away from our village for about 20 years in Akçay. We petitioned the governor's office and returned to our village 3 years ago. We plant our vineyards and gardens in the village, we have animals, we feed them, no human being can be like his own place. People are more comfortable in their village. Thanks to our state, we have paved the inside of our village, and our roads have been asphalted. God bless our state," he said.

Osman Meşe said, “We evacuated our village in 1993 due to terrorist attacks. After nearly 30 years, we came back again thanks to our state. We are in our village now, we have rebuilt our house in the village. The state made our way, we got electricity and water. We have peace in the village, we have no problems. We didn't have roads before, but we could come by tractor. Now, all kinds of vehicles with asphalt roads can go to the village. Many thanks to our state officials. Our only problem is that our children go to school and they need internet, we don't have internet, and that will be solved in a short time.”
