IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlustarted the arrangement works on Laleli Ordu Street in the heart of the historical peninsula and laid the foundation of the Gedikpaşa Multi-Storey Car Park, whose 40-year old building was demolished. Stating that the city hosts 16-17 million tourists a year, İmamoğlu emphasized that their aim is to host 30 million tourists a year in Istanbul. Emphasizing that the historical peninsula mainly bears the tourist burden of Istanbul, İmamoğlu said, “In the second century of our Republic, we will make Istanbul one of the three most livable and beautiful megapolises in the world. It is our intention to be the first. Istanbul deserves this,” he said.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, within the scope of the “150 Projects in 150 Days” marathon, started two important studies for the historical peninsula. İmamoğlu, who started the arrangement works on Laleli Ordu Street, laid the foundation of the Gedikpaşa Multi-Storey Car Park, whose 40-year old building was demolished. In the event held on Ordu Street, İmamoğlu and İBB Deputy Secretary General Gürkan Alpay made speeches.

“THESE AREAS HAVE BEEN IGNORED FOR YEARS”

Emphasizing that they approach the process with a regular, meticulous, planned and programmed view, as in the whole city, in the services they provide in the historical peninsula, İmamoğlu said: and accordingly, I would like to express that we are a management that strives to take the right steps. I can also describe the fact that such areas were kept waiting or ignored for years as a negligence and following another intention. After all, we have known for many years that Beyazıt Square, for example Ordu Street, does not suit this historical texture, the texture of the most beautiful city in the world, which is thousands of years old in Suriçi, at the highest level. But now I also enjoy correcting this table together. We manage our business by activating Istanbul in the light of science and expertise and with the participation of all parties. We always prioritize respect for people, caring for the city, and being sensitive towards its historical texture and spirituality as an important principle in our lives.”

“WE AIM TO PRODUCE PERMANENT PROJECTS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY”

Emphasizing that they aim to produce permanent projects on behalf of the city, İmamoğlu pointed out that Ordu Street is also considered within this scope. Stating that after the works, Ordu Street will be transformed into a contemporary area by preserving its historical texture, İmamoğlu said, “The abolition of vehicle traffic was a radical issue. But this radical issue was also an issue that needed to be implemented. The entire area, which we define as the historical peninsula or as Suriçi, is the rarest region in the world. It is the most exclusive region. In the future, this place should turn into an area where we make investments without forgetting that there is a center that will host tens of millions, not millions, of tourists a year. In this respect, we are step by step activating a multidimensional and holistic view of the historical peninsula in Istanbul's 2050 vision.” Stating that they demolished the Gedikpaşa Car Park, which has been serving in the region for nearly 40 years, due to its vulnerability to earthquakes, and that they will lay the foundation for a new and modern car park today, İmamoğlu said, "Thus, we are activating two important issues in the historical peninsula."

HE MADE A “INFORMATION” WARNING TO WORKFRIENDS

Stating that the works on Ordu Street will not only be carried out above ground, they will also solve the problems related to the infrastructure of the region, İmamoğlu warned his colleagues to pay maximum attention to occupational safety and to inform the shopkeepers about the works in advance. Saying, "Having knowledge solves the problem 80-90 percent," İmamoğlu noted that he will also inspect the studies frequently. Sharing the information that the works in Mercan and Süleymaniye continue, İmamoğlu said, “At the same time, Aksaray Square is an important location for us. The structure where the İSKİ General Directorate is located is an important issue for us. I want them sensitively, on our table, and finished as soon as possible.” Sharing the good news that the European Bus Station, which causes unpleasant images in the region, will soon be moved to Alibeyköy, İmamoğlu stated that the ancient site in Yenikapı will soon meet with Istanbulites as an open-air museum.

SIGNAGE COMING TO THE HISTORICAL PENINSULA

Stating that the city hosts 16-17 million tourists a year, İmamoğlu emphasized that their aim is to host 30 million tourists a year in Istanbul. Saying, “30 million tourists means raising the economy of this city 1,5 times in an instant,” İmamoğlu pointed out that Fatih district is the main center in ensuring this increase. In this context, İmamoğlu stated that they will go to a signage arrangement in the region and said:

“There are some schematic definitions of their management on the axis of the world, with an international arrangement. In this sense, we have rules regarding urbanism. By integrating them, we will bring an extraordinary order here. We will activate the principle of acting regularly and thinking together, not to produce a commercial area, to close a commercial area, as everyone thinks. Our Istanbul, which has won the admiration of the world for centuries, has carried its admiration to the highest level in the second century of our Republic and has made Istanbul the most livable in the world with its tourist capacity, tourist satisfaction, commercial income, wealth and prosperity, income sharing, and satisfaction of its employees. , we will make it one of the three most beautiful megapolises. It is our intention to be the first. Istanbul deserves this.”

“EXCITED NOW….”

Expressing that they enjoyed the "150 Projects in 150 Days" marathon, İmamoğlu underlined that they are working to be worthy of all Istanbulites. In his speech, İmamoğlu said, “We are already excited to finish the Ordu Street, to finalize and start our arrangement regarding Aksaray until that time, to activate a beautiful square where the old building of the İSKİ General Directorate is located and to work there, to bring it together with Yenikapı and to bring it together with Yenikapı. I will be waiting and following excitedly to reach Sultanahmet from the background, Beyazıt Square from the other side, Sarayburnu from there, a finished Eminönü Square and a completed Eminönü-Alibeyköy tram. May these two projects be beneficial to the historical peninsula, our Fatih district and our Istanbul.”
