Tan Guangming, vice-president of China's State Forestry and Rangeland Administration, announced that by 2025, 20 new international wetlands and 50 new national wetlands will be established.

At the press conference held yesterday, Tan Guangming emphasized that China will play a greater role in advancing the quality development of global wetlands according to the Ramsar Wetlands Convention and the Wuhan Declaration.

According to the information provided by Tan, the number of wetland-type nature protection sites in China has exceeded 2.

In addition, 11 million hectares of wetland is planned to be included in the national park system. By 2025, China's wetlands protection rate is expected to reach 55 percent.

Tan announced that China will establish the first “International Mangrove Conservation Center” in the world, which aims to intensify contact and cooperation in the field of mangrove protection, as well as to improve the law and regulation system, the basis of which is the Wetlands Protection Law.
