BUSKİ Ponds Continuing to Provide Lifeline to Farmers

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which provides all kinds of support to the farmers in line with the rural development goals, continues to be the lifeblood of the farmers with the ponds implemented by BUSKI.

In order to prevent migration from the village to the city by providing rural development in Bursa, the Metropolitan Municipality, which supports the producers in every field from quality seedling distribution to equipment support and marketing, added Kestel Gözede to its irrigation pond investments. With the transition to irrigated agriculture, the Metropolitan Municipality, which aims to ensure that more than one product is obtained from the same land in a year, is building a membrane irrigation pond with a storage area of approximately 106 thousand cubic meters in Kestel Gözede. The water height in the pond, which has a storage volume of approximately 1000 100-ton pools, will be 14 meters. With the project, where the works are continuing rapidly, approximately 400 decares of agricultural land will be irrigated.

Yield will increase

Stating that Bursa is an agricultural city besides all its values, Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş emphasized that the productivity in agriculture will increase with irrigated agriculture. Stating that they are trying to bring irrigation ponds and facilities to all rural neighborhoods needed within this scope, Mayor Aktaş said, “In addition to infrastructure in rural neighborhoods, our agricultural investments continue without slowing down, thanks to BUSKİ. We increase both product quality and productivity with the irrigation ponds we have brought to regions with high agricultural potential. Thanks to the membrane irrigation pond under construction in the Gözede District of Kestel, the irrigation needs of our farmers will be met for generations.”
