The Hasankeyf Tunnel and its connection roads, which will provide safe and comfortable transportation between Batman's Hasankeyf and Gercüş districts, were put into service with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with a live connection. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, General Manager of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, deputies, bureaucrats from public institutions and organizations, and contractor company representatives took part in the ceremony.

Stating that while they built the road between Hasankeyf and Gercüş with the quality of divided roads, they also ensured the passage of the Üçyol Strait with a tunnel, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “With approximately 39,4 kilometers of the 30 kilometer road planned in this context, the tunnel and connection roads that we opened today have been completed. With the completion of the roads still under construction, a fast, safe and comfortable transportation will be provided between the districts of Batman and other settlements in the region. I congratulate everyone who contributed to the restoration of our tunnel and road, which we have realized with an investment amount of 2,5 million TL in approximately 910 years, to Hasankeyf. Hopefully, with the power of both our dam and the infrastructure we have brought to our region, we will make Batman one of the leading production, employment and export cities of our country with all its districts.” said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that, with the Ilısu Dam starting to hold water, they have completed the 39,4-kilometer new road route, which provides access to Hasankeyf, which has been moved to its new location, step by step.
Karaismailoğlu stated that the 638-meter double-tube Hasankeyf Tunnel is 2 kilometers long together with the connection roads; He said that once the entire route is put into service, high standard, fast and comfortable transportation will be provided to Batman, Mardin and border gates.
The highway, part of which is within the lake area of the Ilısu Dam, starts from Batman and reaches Hasankeyf via a new route. The road, which provides access to the new campus of the district with the Hasankeyf-1 and 2 bridges in this section, crosses the Üçyol Strait between Hasankeyf and Gercüş with the Hasankeyf Tunnel. While 39,4 kilometers of the road, which is 29,8 kilometers in total, has been completed and opened to traffic, the construction work continues on the first 9,6 kilometers.
By putting the entire road into service; A total of 40,7 million TL will be saved annually, 30,5 million TL from time and 71,2 million TL from fuel oil, and carbon emissions will be reduced by 6.263 tons.
