The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change meticulously carries out its strategy to protect nature, the environment and its seas due to the pollution experienced in the environment, nature, soil and seas. In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that the award of the Istanbul Environmentally Friendly Cities Award, financed by the Republic of Turkey, was decided at the 2013th Meeting of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention on the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea Environment and Coastal Zone held in Istanbul in 18 (COP 18).

It is envisaged that the 'Environmentally Friendly City' award will be given within the scope of accepting and encouraging the valuable efforts in this direction and developing cooperation with the local governments of coastal cities.” it was said.

It was stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's esteemed spouses Emine Erdoğan presented the award to Deputy Mayor Gemma del Corral Parra on behalf of the Malaga Municipality of Spain at the Istanbul Environmentally Friendly Cities Award ceremony held within the framework of the conference.
