Turkey Has All The Instruments To Become A Natural Gas Center

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez stated that Turkey has all the instruments to become a natural gas hub with its infrastructure and gas markets, and said, “The fact that Turkey is the most economical route for new lines and new resources shows that our infrastructure has a potential suitable for further development. ” said.

Minister Dönmez, in his speech at the 12th Turkey Energy Summit held in Antalya under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, stated that Turkey is positively differentiated from other countries at a time when the world is suffering from supply and energy shortages.

Emphasizing that Turkey has all the instruments to become a natural gas hub with its infrastructure and gas markets, Dönmez said:

“We have the technical competence and operational capacity to commission giant projects such as TANAP and TurkStream in a very short time. When our domestic gas is included in this process along with the Black Sea gas, our hand will become even stronger. We carry out intensive energy diplomacy to increase the capacity of our existing lines and to diversify new source countries and routes. We have negotiated new natural gas pipelines from the Middle East, Central Asia and the Mediterranean, and joint hydrocarbon exploration and drilling collaborations with countries. The fact that Turkey is the most economical route for new lines and new resources shows that our infrastructure has a potential for further development.”

Minister Dönmez spoke as follows about the domestic gas works: “We are currently working on a 7/24 basis with a superhuman effort at Filyos, which is the first point where we will land the natural gas we discovered in the Black Sea. I was on the field Friday. I personally examined the works on site. All our work is proceeding in accordance with the planned schedule. We have completed the laying of the 170-kilometer pipeline on the deep sea floor. Testing and commissioning continues. We have completed 80 percent of our work at the Filyos Natural Gas Processing Facility. We will process the gas that will come from the seabed, separate it and transfer it to our national natural gas transmission system.”

Stating that the public side has made great efforts for the development of energy technologies, Dönmez said that the R&D activities carried out on hydrogen in the recent period are now about to turn into concrete outputs.

Fatih Dönmez stated that a hydrogen value chain consisting of hydrogen production, storage and distribution has been established under the responsibility of the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Institute (TENMAK), and used the following statements:

“TENMAK will soon call for support for two projects in the fields of Hydrogen Technologies and Fuel Cells and Carbon Dioxide Capture and Management. Our goal is clear. We will increase our electrolyzer capacity, which will be 2030 gigawatts in 2, by 2053 times to 35 gigawatts in 70. On the other hand, we will reduce the cost of hydrogen production from $2035 to less than $2,4 by 1,2. Thus, we will accelerate the green transformation, reduce our energy imports and increase our competitiveness.”
