10 Million Tons of Garbage Enters the Seas Every Year
Marine and Coastal Management Branch Manager Aliye Ergendedeoğlu stated that such studies are extremely important for raising awareness. Ergendedeoğlu: “The garbage reaching the oceans and seas causes deterioration of the marine ecosystem and environmental problems. The main cause of pollution in the sea is the unconsciously thrown garbage on the shores. According to international studies, it is estimated that 10 million tons of land-based litter enters the seas and oceans annually. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we are cleaning with students in order to raise awareness on these issues with the slogan 'Our Sea, Our Beach, Let's Take Care of Our Garbage'. Let's protect our seas," he said.
