Hours are left until the Osmangazi Bridge, which constitutes the most important leg of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway Project, which will reduce the transportation time between Istanbul and Izmir from nine hours to 3,5 hours, is put into service. The bridge will be opened tomorrow by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

Osmangazi Bridge is the most important pillar of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway Project, which has a total length of 384 kilometers, including 49 kilometers of motorway and 433 kilometers of access roads. On the bridge where the first vehicle will pass after hours, the asphalting works are finished, the lane lines of the road have been drawn, the lighting poles have been erected, and the connections have been made. Traffic signs were placed on the Northern Approach Viaduct, which is located before the Osman Gazi Bridge, which is decorated with flags.

Osmangazi Bridge is the 550th among the suspension bridges with the largest middle span in the world, with a middle span of 2 meters and a length of 682 meters. Turkey, meanwhile, bears the distinction of being the largest middle openness and with a drawbridge. The Osmangazi Bridge, built with the Build-Operate-Transfer model and completed without a penny, is expected to save 4 million dollars annually. For the passage of a car over the bridge, the previously announced fee of 650 Dollars + VAT (35 TL) was also reduced. The new toll was determined as 121 TL. On the next Ramadan Feast, it is free to cross the bridge.

The bridge, the foundation of which was laid with a ceremony held at Yalova Altınova Herzegovina Construction Site on 30 March 2013, was completed as a result of a feverish work that lasted about 39 months. The first assembly of 20 decks, each of which is 113 tons and joins the two sides of the Bay, was carried out on January 7, 2016. The last deck of the bridge was put in place on April 21, 2016 with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. When the motorway project is completed, the distance between Istanbul and Izmir will decrease from 9 hours to 3,5 hours. When the Osmangazi Bridge opens, the Gulf crossing will be reduced from 150 minutes to 6 minutes. The distance between Eskihisar and Topçular will take 60 seconds instead of 90 minutes.

In the meantime, after the opening program of the Osmangazi Bridge, which will start at 30:18.00 on Thursday, June 10, an iftar dinner for 400 thousand people will be served at the Dilovası leg. In addition to citizens and the protocol, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım will also attend the dinner.
