Susuz District of Kars Will Become a Granary Thanks to İzmir

Susuz thanked Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the support of 105 tons of seeds, which are life water, to the Susuz district of Kars, which is struggling with drought. Susuz Mayor Oğuz Yantemur said, “Susuz will be a granary thanks to my Tunç Mayor, İzmir and other municipalities.”

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerAgricultural solidarity that grew with the vision of "Another Agriculture is Possible" reached the Susuz district of Kars. Susuz Mayor Oğuz Yantemur thanked the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for supporting the fight against the damage in production due to drought with a donation of 105 tons of barley and wheat seeds. In Susuz, where there was an extreme drought last year, the farmers were unable to sow this year, as they could not harvest seed grains.

“Soyer was the coordinator of the project”

Oğuz Yantemur stated that Chairman Soyer attaches great importance to the Seed Support Project and said, “He undertook the project's coordinatorship himself. The seeds you see here today were sent to Susuz by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. It was given to farmers for distribution. There are 55 tons of wheat and 50 tons of barley seeds here. Again, we continue to buy seeds from the district municipalities of İzmir. Seed aid continues to come from our other municipalities. After the 15th of April, we will distribute the seeds to the villagers and let them plant them,” he said.

It is important to have bread wheat

Emphasizing that the seeds are clean, Yantemur said, “No other seeds were mixed in it. This also increases production. Also, this is a bread wheat variety. This is also very important. At a time when food prices have increased so much, the importance of bread seeds is increasing. Our people will meet their own and their animals' needs in winter. This also makes us happy. Hopefully we will go back to our old days," he said.

Seed and soil will meet in the spring festival weather

Yantemur continued his words as follows: “This year, we are planning to bring seeds and soil together in Susuz, in the mood of a spring festival. I would like to thank my President Tunç and his colleagues. Susuz will be the granary of my Tunç President, thanks to İzmir and other municipalities. We plan to take back the same amount of seeds we give to the farmers and carry this work to a higher level next year.”

With the call of Mayor Soyer in the Assembly, 25 tons of support will be provided from the district municipalities. Minister Tunç Soyerhad brought the seed support to Susuz to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council with an emergency code.

Producers are happy with the solidarity

Susuz Kazım Karabekir Neighborhood Mukhtar Kurtuluş Kindan: “Responding to the seed support campaign initiated by our President Oğuz Yantemur, our Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mr. Tunç SoyerWe thank you and the people of Izmir. The seeds that have been sent are 25 percent more efficient and certified seeds. Hopefully this year will be more fruitful than last year.”

Headman of İnönü Neighborhood Ahmet Mahmutoğlu: “May Allah be pleased with our mayor for his support. We thank you. We would have expected it from Susuzlu business people, but it did not happen. May Allah be pleased with the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the people of Izmir. These seeds are 25 percent better quality.”

Susuz İnkılap District Headman İsmet Okat: “We received aid from our sister municipality, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, this year due to the drought. He helped by giving wheat and barley as last aid. God bless you. If business people had helped, none of them would have made a sound. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality made great contributions. We'll plant it this year and we'll get better in the years to come. Thank you to all the CHP municipalities that helped. Especially our Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç SoyerI especially thank you very much. He visited our district 1 year ago. Thank you to all your team. He promised to help us here and he fulfilled all of them.”

Producer Atif Lizor: “We have been growing vegetables here in Kars for years. We have greenhouses. The aid campaign initiated by our president and mayors will lead the return of the villagers. This will be the granary and hopefully next year our production will be high. This seed is planting about 5 thousand acres of land. We could not find even 5-6 sacks of wheat. This will also be an incentive. There was an orientation to oats, now there will be an orientation to wheat and barley. I see it as an incentive to return to irrigated land. This is one step. It is a win for this wheat to be certified. Regardless, we need to know the name of the seed. We need to know the seed so that we can get a yield next year. Our people will learn their genetic characteristics as they sow. If we compare this to this year, we would be wrong. We need to recognize and note the seeds.”
