Mersin Governor's Office made a written statement about the police officers who stopped the deputy's vehicle. The statement from the governor's office stated:

A month ago, on 18.07.2021 at around 18:30, a statement was made regarding the incident of Mersin Deputy Zeynep Gül Yılmaz's car being stopped. Social media sharing of Mersin Deputy Ali Mahir Basarir completely distorts the event. In the aforementioned incident, the vehicle of Mersin deputy Zeynep Gül Yılmaz was stopped by the police officers upon a tip-off. In subparagraph G of Article 71 of the Highway Traffic Law, vehicles with superiority of passage are counted due to duty and service requirements and security reasons. In this context, although the vehicle used by the deputy was within this scope, he was kept waiting for half an hour after it was stopped by the police officers and it was understood that he was a deputy. Despite the fact that the relevant branch manager said that the inquiry was made incorrectly, that the vehicle was registered, and that the license plate of the deputy's vehicle was reported incorrectly in this regard, it was kept on hold, but the issue was resolved after it was conveyed to the provincial police director. At that time, what the police officers should do is to take a report and send it to the relevant institution, if there is a detected violation. However, it was understood from the preliminary investigation that; civil servants are out of the legal regulations. Thereupon, necessary legal action has been taken against them.
