The U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) and AirJoule Technologies Corporation announced on October 7 that they had signed a three-year joint research and development agreement to develop new systems capable of producing water from the air for soldiers.

Nanogrid and Humidity Extraction System Integration

This strategic partnership will build upon the Army’s existing nanogrid (microgrid) technology and AirJoule’s innovative moisture extraction system.

Matt Jore, CEO of AirJoule Technologies, noted that the system can operate in a wide variety of environments where surface and groundwater sources are either unavailable or contaminated. The integration of AirJoule technology with the Army nanogrid system will ensure that soldiers have a continuous and reliable source of clean water while on the move in hazardous and underdeveloped areas. This off-grid system, which can convert atmospheric moisture into water, has the potential to eliminate countless logistical challenges for troops in the field.

Access to clean water has been a vital element for the success of military operations throughout history. At the heart of AirJoule technology is a metal-organic framework (MOF), which can hold more than half its weight in water vapor and requires minimal energy to convert the vapor into liquid.
