'Pre-Training' Mandatory for ESHOT Drivers

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality imposes 'pre-training' obligation for the drivers to be employed within the ESHOT General Directorate. The Driver Training Program to be implemented in accordance with the parliamentary decision; General Directorate of İZELMAN, General Directorate of ESHOT and Department of Metropolitan Social Projects will carry out jointly.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is launching a new practice in the purchase of drivers for the ESHOT General Directorate, which provides about half of the public transportation services in the city. In accordance with the decision adopted by the Metropolitan Municipality Council, the Driver Training Program (SYP) will be implemented. The program in which various trainings will be given to driver candidates; General Directorate of İZELMAN, General Directorate of ESHOT and Department of Metropolitan Social Projects will carry out jointly.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyeremphasized that they attach great importance to the criterion of 'merit' in recruitment in all units of the municipality. Stating that the ESHOT fleet, which connects all four corners of the city, makes approximately 373 trips on 20 lines every day, Mayor Soyer said:

President Soyer: Security will increase even more

“Our buses carry 'life'. As we have improved our fleet with renewed vehicles, we aim to move our drivers to a much more qualified point. Our chauffeur personnel using these vehicles have been selected meticulously since the past. SYP will further increase this meticulousness. Education first. This is the biggest difference. Previously, education processes started after employment. We brought it forward and developed it. Thus, our new drivers will start working much more ready to work. The application will further strengthen the safe service of ESHOT buses and of course make an extra contribution to traffic safety. In-house training programs will also continue on a routine basis.” President Soyer added that from now on, drivers will not be recruited except for the Driver Training Program.

Candidates will go through different stages

In the first leg of the new system; Candidates to be selected with the preliminary evaluation to be made in İZELMAN will be directed to the Awareness Training to be given at the Vocational Factory after they have taken out Personal Accident Insurance individually. Here, within the scope of the program that will last for a total of 61 hours, the driver candidates; Trainings on Disability Awareness, Communication Skills, Coping with Stress and Anger Control, Gender Equality, Turkish Sign Language, Importance of Local Government Personnel in Realizing the Rights of the Child, Child-Friendly Transportation, Basic Concepts in Combating Discrimination and Inclusive Policies will be provided. Those who are successful here will have a Certificate of Participation, which they can use in different job applications.

Camera recording in the driving test

Candidates who will be tested after the awareness training, and those who score 70 and above, will be given theoretical and practical training, which has been applied for years in driver purchases, within the body of ESHOT General Directorate. After three hours of theoretical training by driving techniques experts, a multiple-choice test will be conducted. Candidates with a score of 70 and above will be entitled to take the driving test if they pass the 11-hour practical training. The exam of the candidate will be recorded with an in-car camera. Candidates who had only one right before, will be given two rights in a row with the new application. Candidates who score 70 and above in the driving exam will finally take the psychometric assessment test. Those who pass the test will be eligible for a job as an ESHOT bus driver within three months.

Unsuccessful candidates will be able to apply for the training program again after six months. If they are re-evaluated, they will only see the trainings they were not successful in and will go through the exam processes again.
