Ukraine Extends Transport Restrictions for Agricultural Exports by Rail

Ukraine's state-owned rail company has expanded temporary restrictions on the transport of some agricultural products across the border into Poland, Reuters reported on Friday, citing analysts and officials.

Ukraine, a major agricultural producer, exported most of its goods via seaports, but has had to export by train across its western border since Russia's invasion in February.

The APK-Inform consultancy said that restrictions on the movement of goods to Poland via Izov would be extended until May 3, but did not provide details.

Last week, the state-owned railroad introduced restrictions to Romania via the Ukrzaliznytsia, Dyakovo and Vadul-Siret crossings, and to Poland via Yahodyn and Izov.

The company said the buildup of wagons at border crossings and closures during the Easter holidays has prompted Ukraine to temporarily restrict supplies of goods.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Roman Rusakov confirmed the restrictions, saying that the restrictions were caused by Poland, the issue will be discussed with Poland next week.

Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskyi said earlier this month that the ministry's main task is to find alternative ways to export grain.

The country still has at least 13 million tons of grain for export. The minister told APK-Inform that Ukraine should release its silos this month for new harvests totaling 40 million tons in July.
