Marathon Izmir Retained the Title of 'Turkey's Fastest Track'

Marathon İzmir, which ended with a time of 2.09.27 by the Kenyan athlete Lanny Rutto in men and 2.27.35 by Ethiopian Letebrhan Haylay Gebreslasea in women, maintained its title as “Turkey's fastest track”. In the third race organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Rutto achieved a historic success by improving the rating of Ethiopian Tsegaye Getachew by 8 more seconds than last year.

In line with the Global Goals determined by the United Nations for a "Sustainable World", approximately 42 thousand athletes from 10 countries participated in the races, which were run in the 43 and 5 kilometers categories with the goal of "waste-free marathon".

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, who both started and completed the 42-kilometer race, said, “It is a very good feeling to finish the third race. Marathon Izmir is one of the biggest steps of this road. It was a very effective and important day for the promotion of our city. We have seen once again today that we can rank among the best marathons in Europe in the coming years.”

Future marathoners also ran

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality also organized a festival under the name of "Sporfest Izmir" by spreading Marathon Izmir events throughout the week. Thousands of people who flocked to Kültürpark, where the events were held, experienced 12 different sports branches and visited the stands of İzmir clubs. A children's run was organized for the first time in the festival, which was colored with entertainment and concerts. Future marathoners got the opportunity to show themselves by going on the track for the first time.

As part of Marathon İzmir, with the cooperation in the field of social responsibility with Adım Adım, donations of nearly 4 million TL were collected for non-governmental organizations.

Full points for health services

In Maraton İzmir, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Eşrefpaşa Hospital also provided health services. Chief Physician Devrim Demirel and Deputy Chief Physician Dr. Yavuz Uçar took an active role with the healthcare team throughout the organization. Dr. In the team where Mesut Nalçakan served as the director of health services, emergency medicine, cardiology specialist and 6 paramedics in the fully equipped emergency tent, 8 physiotherapists in the physiotherapy tent, 7 fully equipped ambulances on the track and at the finish line, 20 doctors on bicycles on the track for emergency help, 18 health professionals at the finish line. The surveillance team worked with a health army of 78 people in total. Dr. Yıldırım Gezgin's medical faculty and emergency and first aid department students and the health surveillance team at the finish line, Dr. Ezgi Şeker coordinated the emergency tent. Bicycle doctors intervened in a short time to the health problems that occurred on the track. After the race, health services were provided in first aid and physiotherapy tents. Athletes participating in the race stated that they felt safer especially because of the presence of cyclists on the track.
