Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, restored II. He visited the Mahmud Tomb and its surroundings.

Ersoy, who received information from the authorities regarding the restoration works, was accompanied by Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Foundations General Manager Burhan Ersoy, Cultural Heritage and Museums General Manager Gökhan Yazgı and Istanbul Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Coşkun Yılmaz.

Stating that works are being carried out for the revival of 124 tombs within the scope of the “Fidelity to Ecclesiastes, Revival of Art” project, Ersoy said, "Of these 124 tombs, there are 15 tombs of the sultan, 28 tombs of the dynasty, 60 tombs of the grand viziers and pashas, ​​and 21 tombs of important religious figures." said.

Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that work on 45 tombs has been started so far and said:

“Hopefully, we will increase this number to 60 by the end of Ramadan. Until the end of the year, we will have gradually repaired all 124 in the form of partial and comprehensive repairs within this scope. When we look at our history, it will be the first study to be done at the same time on so many tombs with such a wide scope. But we will quickly start and complete these works by the end of this year. We will both preserve the memory of our ancestors and pass it on to future generations, and we will also bring in important values ​​for Istanbul and Islam.”

Minister Ersoy and his entourage then went to the Fatih Madrasa next to the Hagia Sophia-i Kebir Mosque-i Şerifi, to be inaugurated, and made investigations.

Within the scope of the works that will clean the dirt and corrosive surfaces in the networks, and rough cleaning of the surfaces of the gravestones in the burial area, an "Art Revival Workshop" will also be established in the burial area and the courtyard in front of the tomb.
