Turkey Has Signed a First in the World Produced Lithium Battery from Boron Waste

Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said, “We continue investments and projects with great determination. We are producing these batteries from boron waste for the first time in the world. Boron ore has lithium in it, we decompose it and recycle it. kazanwe are eating. We are also making a great effort to catch the Black Sea gas by 2023. Last week, we sent the Yavuz drilling ship off to the Türkali-2 well to place the control equipment and systems to be lowered to the seabed, especially the wellhead equipment. We are talking about 65 meters high wellhead equipment weighing 6 tons. We reached this ship location and lowered the wellhead valve safely.” said.

Minister Dönmez, at a meeting held with businessmen and NGO representatives at a thermal hotel, said that when they came to power, Turkey's total electricity installed power was 31 megawatts.

In addition, Dönmez noted that it is an energy sector that is constantly struggling with power cuts due to its inadequate infrastructure, where breakdown and maintenance times are constantly extended, and that investments can be made in limited areas under state control. We made the electricity sector a more dynamic, more vibrant sector with a stronger appetite for investment. We restructured the Turkish Electricity Authority as generation, transmission and distribution. With the private sector becoming more involved in this field every year, we have gained a great momentum in energy investments. We have also opened up more space for renewable energy investments such as wind, solar, biomass and geothermal in the energy portfolio previously led by hydroelectric, natural gas and coal power plants. Hopefully, with the commissioning of the first reactor in 2023, nuclear energy will also be included in our portfolio.” said.

Reminding that as a result of these intense investments, the installed power in electricity has increased more than 20 times in the last 3 years and has reached the limit of 100 thousand 100 megawatts, as of today, exceeding 344 thousand megawatts, Dönmez said:

“The most striking point in this table was our investments in renewable energy. Renewable resources, the size of which could not even be read 20 years ago, except for HEPPs, today carries the burden of our energy portfolio significantly. Renewable resources accounted for 5 percent of the total installed power investments of 25 megawatts that we commissioned in the last 478 years. During this time, we invested heavily in solar, followed by wind, hydroelectric power plants, biogas plants and geothermal resources. In the pandemic period, when many investments in the world were delayed or stopped, we continued on our way without slowing down. We have implemented our additional installed power investments of 80 megawatts in 2019, 3.778 megawatts in 2020 and 4.944 megawatts in 2021.”

“I hope we will leave a beautiful legacy to Turkey's future”

Stating that they gradually increase the share of domestic and renewable energy with a balanced investment plan, Dönmez noted that they have entered a period where these investments pay off.

Stating that the share of renewable energy sources in the total installed power was 20 percent 38,6 years ago, this number has reached 54 percent today. I hope we will continue to renew Turkey's energy and to grow and become stronger as it is renewed.” he said.

Arguing that there is a serious movement in all fields of energy, from oil and natural gas to nuclear, from renewable energy to mining, Dönmez continued as follows:

“We continue investments and projects with great determination. We reached this ship location and lowered the wellhead valve safely. 2 thousand 200 meters under the water. There are no people there. We use unmanned submarine vehicles. There are drones, there are unmanned underwater robots, and we mount that equipment at the head of the borehole we drilled without human touch. With the help of robot arms. Thus, with Yavuz's inauguration, for the first time, we started to continue our work in the Black Sea with our 3 ships at the same time. After Türkali-2, Yavuz will go to other wells and repeat the same operations that we call top completion there. After this process, we will connect the pipeline to the wells we drilled. I hope it came in pipes. We're at 75 percent. Maybe it will be completed by July. It will lay the bottom of the water like July and August, a big ship will come and place them under the water.”

Stating that the target is 2023, Dönmez said, “I hope that the target will be to bring our domestic gas to our nation in the 100th anniversary of the Republic. We were in Filyos 2 weeks ago, we were on the field. There's a team there that works day and night, literally. They are highly motivated and full of faith. I hope we will leave a beautiful legacy to Turkey's future. We are nearing the end of our first investment, the Boron Carbide Plant, which will process our boron ore with high technology and turn it into an end product. I hope we will complete our facility and start performance tests in 2022. on the other hand

We are laying the foundation of the Ferrobor Production Facility in 2022. We will complete the necessary survey and project studies for the establishment of the Lithium Carbonate Production Facility by the end of 2022. Rare Earth Oxides KazanI hope we will realize the pilot plant installation of our Process Design, Pilot and Production Facility in 2023.” he said.

Reminding that they are preparing for 2023 with great energy, Dönmez stated that all projects that will increase Turkey's energy continue to rise all over the country.

Defending that Turkey's energy independence has become flesh and bone with these projects, Dönmez said, “We are aware that the moves that will end Turkey's dependence on foreign energy are the biggest guarantee of a great and powerful Turkey. We still have a long way to go, we know. To this end, we will continue to work day and night to carry the trust entrusted to us by our nation even higher.” said.

“We have the world's largest reserve on the board”

Minister Dönmez, in his speech at the neighborhood fast-breaking dinner organized by the municipality in Kanlıca District, said that Afyonkarahisar has been one of the shining stars in this region in recent years, especially in terms of both underground resources and aboveground riches.

Noting that the city now has the potential and capacity to export not only the products that appeal to the domestic market in Turkey, but also abroad, Dönmez said, “I hope the number and amount of this will increase gradually. In the last 20 years, as a ministry, we have invested 4,1 billion liras in Afyonkarahisar. Investments will continue.” used the phrases.

“We Are Producing Batteries From Boron Wastes For The First Time In The World”

Noting that they continue to support the industry for the production of domestic resources, Dönmez explained that they have provided a total of 6 million liras of coal support in the last 761 years so that the underground coal operations will be least affected by the cost increases.

Pointing out that they made a support payment of 60 million 395 thousand liras to the businesses affected by the epidemic last year, with an increase of 484 percent compared to the previous year, Dönmez said, “We made a support payment of 3 million lira in the first 96 months of this year in order to minimize the effects of the coal prices, which were adversely affected due to the global instability. 10 businesses employing approximately 49 thousand of our miners benefit from these payments.” made its assessment.

Dönmez stated that they will take important steps this year for domestic lithium, which started production at the pilot facility in late 2020, and said:

“We will hold the tenders for the construction of our facilities that will produce 600 tons of annual production in Eskişehir Kırka and 100 tons in Balıkesir Bandırma this year. We are producing these batteries from boron waste for the first time in the world. Boron ore has lithium in it, we decompose it and recycle it. kazanwe are eating. The R&D of this project belongs entirely to us, our engineers. We signed a cooperation agreement with Aspilsan and Aselsan for the use of the produced lithium carbonate in the production of lithium ion batteries. They will meet their needs from us, especially domestic lithium, and we will provide energy to Turkey's domestic technology.”

Stating that the AK Party has completed the basic infrastructure investments that the country needs in almost every field from transportation to energy, from education to health in the last 20 years, Dönmez said:

“From now on, on top of this solid infrastructure, a period awaits Turkey in which we will play a leading role in almost every field in the world and we will write the success story together. Hopefully, we will build this Turkey together in 2023 and beyond. You have trusted us until today. We tried to be worthy of this trust and not to embarrass it. We are aware that you do not miss us in your prayers. Especially with our work in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, while our team was sweating on the field 7/24, you opened your hands and prayed for us. God did not leave your prayers unanswered. You know, 2 years ago in 2020, we made one of the world's largest underwater natural gas hydrocarbon discoveries. I hope exactly 540 billion cubic meters. We are working to bring the natural gas of the Black Sea to the citizens. In the 100th anniversary of the Republic, you will see our gas when you turn on the stove and brew tea in your home.”

Emphasizing that they will continue to write new success stories in the mine, Dönmez said, “We are reducing the export of raw materials, we are turning to products with higher added value than intermediate end products. We have the world's largest reserves on board. Last year we broke a record. We broke a record by exporting more than 1 billion dollars. Hopefully this year, we expect it to reach 1,2 billion dollars. We focused on end products. We will open the Boron Carbide Factory.” he said.
