Eurasia Tunnel Opens to Motorcycle Traffic

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karasmailoğlu gave good news to motorcycle users; announced that they opened the Eurasia Tunnel to motorcycle traffic as of May 1. Drawing attention to the fact that the Biker Friendly Barriers continue to dry up, Karaismailoğlu said, "We came together with the Turkish Motorcycle Platform and determined that the Biker Friendly Barrier should be built at 190 points."

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu spoke at the opening ceremony of Motobike Istanbul 2022 Fair. “Motobike Istanbul, the most important event of the motorcycle and bicycle industry in the region; Karaismailoğlu, who said that it is an important meeting point for national and international participants in terms of bringing together the producers, investors and buyers of the sector and offering them new business opportunities, said that transportation is closely related to the supply-demand balance in almost every sector, social-political-technical-economic- He said that transportation is at the center of cultural relations.

WE ARE WORKING TO INCREASE THE USE OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Stating that he is directly and related to each of them, Karaismailoğlu said, “Moreover, transportation connects all these. Transportation is of strategic importance in our age where global interaction is constantly increasing. Considering the geo-strategic position of our country, its integration policies in every sense with its region and its economic goals; We included the most effective, efficient and innovative arguments of transportation, 'Logistics-Mobility-Digitalization' and smart transportation systems on our agenda. We have determined realistic targets with the right strategies and policies for these areas. We are working to increase the use of electric vehicles in public transportation and service vehicles. We encourage the development of domestic and national technologies for the sustainability of the environment and for the transition to clean energy in the field of transportation. We are working on the technical and administrative infrastructure that will make it possible for electric vehicles, the number of which is increasing rapidly, to become widespread in our country as well. We are creating the general concept for the dissemination of bicycle and scooter use in cities and pedestrianization projects.

WE HAVE SAVED 7,3 BILLION HOURS ANNUALLY IN TRAVEL TIME

Karaismailoğlu stated that giant strides and reforms have been made in the field of transportation in the last 20 years, and that mega transportation projects such as Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel, Istanbul Airport, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osmangazi Bridge, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, Motorways and High Speed Train Lines have been successfully completed.

Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “We have put it at the service of both our nation and the world. Divided road length, which was 2003 thousand 6 kilometers in 100; We took it to 28 thousand 647 kilometers. Our total tunnel length of 50 kilometers; We increased it more than 13 times to 651 kilometers. With the uninterrupted flow of traffic that improves the operational performance of our roads, we have saved 7,3 billion hours of travel time annually. Thanks to the shortened travel times, we have saved 76 billion 458 million TL annually, of which 6 billion 3 million TL is time, 123 billion TL is fuel oil, 85 billion TL is maintenance and 581 million TL is the environment. In addition, road safety has increased thanks to our investments. Fatal traffic accidents have decreased considerably. This means that we save the lives of 9 people a year. In addition, we have reduced emissions by 500 million tons,” he said.

UNTIL 2053, OUR CONTRIBUTION TO NATIONAL INCOME WILL FIND 1 TRILLION DOLLARS

Underlining that projects that add value to Turkey in 20 years have been realized with an investment of 170 billion dollars, Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows:

“With the '2053 Transport and Logistics Master Plan', which we shared with the public recently, we are designing the future of Turkey. When we come to 5 at the end of our 2053-year plans; We planned and started to invest 198 billion dollars for railway, road, sea, air and communication. By 2053, our contribution to the national income will reach 1 trillion dollars and we will earn more than 5 times the investment value. Our contribution to production will be approximately 2 trillion dollars, approximately 10 times the investment value. We will increase the use of electric and alternative energy instead of fossil fuels on highways. This will also strengthen our environmentalist approach, the fuel, environment and time savings of our projects, and the contribution of our projects to our national wealth. With these projects, we; We are determined to be the 'leading country of the developed world', not 'developing'. Rapidly developing and growing cities in the development of transportation and communication infrastructure and new technologies brought by digitalization have changed the mobility ecosystem in urban transportation. Especially on the streets of our metropolitan cities, micro mobility vehicles with an average speed of less than 50 kilometers per hour, electric and non-electric, have increased a lot. The fact that the number of motorcycles, which was approximately 2003 million in 1, is now 4 million, shows that the demand for motorcycle use is increasing gradually.”

THIS YEAR, WE WILL ESTABLISH MORE THAN 40 THOUSAND METERS PROTECTIVE HEADGUARDS

Expressing that the number of motorcycle registrations increased by 2022 percent compared to January-February of the previous year, according to TUIK data in February 15,6, Karaismailoğlu drew attention to the fact that 2021 thousand 12 registrations in February 517 increased to 2022 thousand 14 in February 468. . He emphasized that there are approximately 25,4 million vehicles registered in traffic today, of which 3,8 million, or 15 percent, are motorcycles. At this point, Karaismailoğlu explained that as the Ministry, they do very important work for the safety of motorcycle users first for life and immediately after, for the safety of property, and made the following assessments:

“We design and build not only the infrastructure of our roads, but also the superstructure and art structures with a superior planning. We are working hard to maximize the safety of life and property in traffic. In this context, we are installing Motorcycle Protective Guardrail Systems, also known as Biker-Friendly Barriers, on our highways in order to reduce the severity of collisions at the time of the accident, and we are increasing the number of positions and their lengths. We place these guardrails in areas where motorcycle accidents are concentrated and where the risks are high. According to the analysis of the accident detection reports of our highways, we have installed motorcycle protective guardrail systems over 13 thousand 100 meters on the lines and points that carry the highest risk so far. This year, we planned to install over 40 thousand meters of protective guardrails. In addition, we came together with the Turkish Motorcycle Platform and determined to build a Biker Friendly Barrier at 190 points.”

MOTORCYCLE USERS WILL ALSO BENEFIT FROM THE PRIVILEGE PROVIDED BY EURASIA TUNNEL

Giving another good news to motorcycle users, Karaismailoğlu said, “Motorcycle users will also benefit from the privilege provided by the Eurasia Tunnel, which is an important alternative to the Bosphorus crossing and serves on the route between Kazlıçeşme and Göztepe. We are opening the Eurasia Tunnel to motorcycle traffic as of May 1, before the Ramadan Feast.”

Stating that they have observed an increase in the use of micro-mobility vehicles such as scooters and electric bicycles, especially among young people, Karaismailoğlu stated that they continue to work on the construction of new bicycle paths all over the country. Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, said, "No one should doubt that we will continue to increase these roads even more"

“We are integrating the routes of bicycles and micro-mobility vehicles into metro and train lines. We will also continue our new investments and incentives to expand such environmentally friendly modern transportation systems in order to prevent the concentration of vehicle traffic in cities.”
