Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM); When completed, the 12-station section of the Ataköy-İkitelli Olympic metro line with 2 stops, which will pass through Bakırköy, Bahçelievler, Bağcılar, Küçükçekmece and Başakşehir districts, has been put into service. The opening of the line, Bahariye and Masko Stations was made by CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

A commissioning ceremony was held for Ataköy - Olympic Metro Line, Bahariye and Masko Stations, one of the important metro projects of Istanbul. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu also attended the ceremony. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu drew attention to the importance of the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kılıçdaroğlu emphasized that İmamoğlu and his team serve the people of Istanbul 24 hours a day. “I have an e-mail address. Kılıçdaroğlu said, “Citizens send messages there from time to time.”

“Some complain, some make suggestions, some say 'Mayors are working very well', some complain about the mayor. In other words, citizens convey their messages in one way or another. One morning, I turned on the internet on my desk again; I'm looking at incoming messages. A 5-6 line message sent by a worker friend from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. We came here again for an opening; He says: 'You opened, but you didn't take us collectively to an opening square. A message came out saying, “Who wants to come, who wants not to come”. We were really surprised. Therefore, we are extremely happy that such a table has emerged. You didn't force us anywhere.' Yes, that's our understanding. We; We respect everyone and every opinion. The step taken by our Metropolitan Mayor in this regard already shows this. "


The headlines of Kılıçdaroğlu's speech, who gave examples of IMM's services, were as follows:

“There is no other metropolitan municipality in the world that undertakes the construction of 10 metro lines at the same time. A big metropolis, a mighty metropolis. It is the only metropolis in the world to continue the construction of 10 metros at the same time, despite or lack of resources. What are we gonna do? We will be proud of it. The President uses the available resources in the most efficient way. For what? For Istanbulites. So that Istanbulites can establish a healthier transportation line between their workplace and their homes, so that they can go back and forth comfortably. It's not just the simultaneous construction of 10 metro lines; At the same time, social assistance is provided to 1 million 600 thousand households. This is a world record among metropolises. You will make 10 metro lines at the same time, you will cover the costs of this; You will provide social assistance to 1 million 600 thousand households at the same time. The cost of this is 1 billion 200 million liras. What were they saying? 'Don't vote CHP municipalities.' Why? 'If they come, they cut the social benefits.' What happened? The opposite happened. They did not know our human emotions and were abusing them. This picture has been turned upside down, shattered to pieces.”


Underlining that the inaugurated line is a good service, Kılıçdaroğlu said, “Mr. President, I congratulate you and your team wholeheartedly. I have a request from you: If you make this line free of charge for a certain period of time - 10 days, 15 days, 1 week - the citizen will also get used to it. If you do this, I would be very happy. I know when you do that, they'll still say, 'Wow, you put your hand back; investigation. Wow sir you did this; investigation. Wow sir why did you do so many days for free; There will be another investigation. All of these come and trot. Continue on the path you believe in, Mr. President, continue on the path you believe in. What is our measurement? Our measure is this, friends: No haram morsel will go down the throat; finished. This is our core measurement. The rest doesn't matter," he concluded.


“When we took over in June 2019, the total metro line was 233 kilometers. As of now, we have reached 260 kilometers. In other words, we added 2 kilometers of metro lines to Istanbul in 27 years,” said İmamoğlu and shared the following information:

“Between 2019-2024, we will build 103 kilometers of metro. We will present almost half of the metro, built in 25 years, to Istanbul, in just 5 years, to Istanbul. Between 1994-2019, the performance of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was 5 kilometers per year. On the other hand, we will increase this to 4 times, that is, over 20 kilometers. We have subways that we opened in 2 years. We will speed up even more. We know that this is not enough. There were 12 rail systems that were tendered before us. Unfortunately, exactly 10 of these rail systems were stopped. It stood for 2 years. That's how we got it. This is a painful situation. The construction of the remaining 2 lines was also slowed down. We experienced the situation of the contractors there who did not know where to go and how to finish, in the first days we came. The tender was made as follows: There is no finance, some do not have a project. Is there a tender without a project? It happened. So to speak; This was a process that prioritized neither state seriousness, tender transparency, nor citizens' budget. There was no rational project. After coming to work, we spent more than 6 months researching these projects, the rights, legal status and financial opportunities of the people of Istanbul. We dealt with this for 6 months. Then, we started our constructions quickly by using our own resources, the loans we obtained and the funds we obtained from our bond issuance. Today, Istanbul has become the city that makes the most metro in the world at the same time. This success is the success of this team, which focuses on its work, motivates its people with morality and merit.”


Providing information about the line in question, İmamoğlu said, “This line is 13 kilometers. Başakşehir includes Küçükçekmece, Bağcılar, Bahçelievler and Bakırköy. And this line will have the capacity to carry 500 thousand people daily. With this line, the one-way journey time between İkitelli and Ataköy will be reduced to 30 minutes. At the same time, we will have a line that can meet the beach. We also have 5 valuable integrated lines in the transportation network. One of them is the Kirazlı-Olympic-Basakşehir Metro line. Another is our Mahmutlu-Esenyurt line, which we have just started and hopefully we will meet with you. Another one is Kirazlı- from Mimar Sinan Station.Halkalı our line. Our Yenikapi Ataturk Airport line from Yenibosna Station. From Atakoy Station Halkalı-This is a really useful line that is integrated into the Gebze line. Today we are opening the first stage. By opening its second phase in 2022, we will put this line, which will benefit 500 thousand people, to the service of the people of Istanbul together with you. I want to announce it now. Each opened metro line not only increases the quality of life of our people, but also contributes to a green Istanbul. "Our people who get rid of wheeled vehicles can reach every corner of Istanbul in a healthy way."

“Despite the efforts that make us laugh, we will not give up”

Expressing his thanks to everyone who contributed to the construction of the line, İmamoğlu said, “We will never give up, despite all the efforts that sometimes try to prevent us with strange ways and methods and make us laugh every week. We will never give up our passion to serve 16 million people. We will never be satisfied with our achievements. We are aware that we need a lot.

We will always pursue more, better, newer things for Istanbul, together with you, to the service of Istanbulites. After the speeches, the opening of the 2-station section of the Ataköy-İkitelli Olympic metro line was held.
