A similar process with Russia in the past years is still on the agenda. As you may recall, a similar process happened in Sochi Port in 2009. In the year of 2011, after the closure of Sochi Port to freight transportation, the trade came to a halt in Trabzon and the freight traffic had shifted to Samsun. Samsun was able to correctly assess the preferability of the Sochi Port. In particular, the 2002-2014 achieved an accelerating momentum in international transportation. Although Gelincik Port increases its importance in terms of export of fresh fruits and vegetables, we also know that the exporters of Black Sea Region have expressed their demand for opening of Sochi Port at every opportunity.
Following the closure of Sochi Port, the new process is now in place for Gelincik Port. In the last days of the 2018 year, preparations for a serious precaution plan have begun in the Ministry of Trade, with the arrival of two years of maintenance of the port of Gelincik. The main reason for this is of course that Russia is the biggest market when it comes to fresh fruit and vegetable exports. Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), according to data from Turkey to Russia in January-1 16 2018 between July 460 154 thousand tons were exported fresh fruits and vegetables. In this period, fresh fruit and vegetable exports increased by 44 and 64 by 337 and 736 million 532 by XNUMX. We are faced with a process that will put the logistics sector in serious stresses in the times when we are putting our export targets at the forefront so that the economy of the country can reach prosperity.
Because of the export of fresh fruits and vegetables for Gelincik Port is generally made in the form of truck transport. Moving from Samsun to the port of Gelincik with Ro-Ro ships, the companies that are in the Black Sea are taking the lead. These companies are both engaged in the trade of fresh fruits and vegetables and they are active in the field of transportation works and services. Undoubtedly, maintenance of Gelincik Port will negatively affect commercial activity in and around Samsun. In addition, the negativities to be experienced in Antalya will be felt in many of our regions, such as Manisa / Alaşehir, Fethiye, Kumluca / Fenike, Adana, Mersin and Hatay regions, which develop agriculture-related economy in our country.
Is it possible to create an alternative route to Gelincik Port? The most suitable route for Ro-Ro or other ships carrying these loads when the Port of Gelincik is taken into account must be one of the ports in the Novorossky Region, such as the docks with the number 39. However, the ports of this region still have a very busy ship traffic. In this context, such cargos can not suffer from waiting to suffer because of the great difficulties.
When we consider the processes that the container ships are exposed to, it is clear that there will be a need for other alternatives that are smaller but smaller than the draft depth 4 to 4,5 meters. In this case, Port Kavkaz and Port Temruk Ports may be offered for export of fresh fruit and vegetables. However, it is necessary for the public authorities to initiate these ports and the customs administration to which they are attached to the trade of fresh fruit and vegetables.
