Zübeyde Hanım, the mother of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, was commemorated with various events on the 100th anniversary of her death.

Speaking at the commemoration ceremony at İsmet İnönü Art Center, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said, “Commemorating Ms. Zübeyde means defending, protecting and understanding the spirit of our liberation struggle, the republic once again. I commemorate Ms. Zübeyde with mercy and respect.” İzmir City Council Deputy Chairman Ceren Tütüncü said, "I would like to express my gratitude to Ms. Zübeyde, who was a strong, clear and determined woman who decided which school her child would go to in the 1800s, and I remember her with respect."

After the speeches, Deputy Chairman Özuslu, known as “Zübeyde Hanım's Daughters” Karşıyaka Meriç Nur Yalçın, captain of the Sports Club Women's Volleyball Team, handed out certificates of appreciation to Ceylin Bayman and Nehir Cinel.

Later, Sıla, who attended the Child Youth Center affiliated to the Child Municipality Branch Directorate, appeared on the stage. Sıla received great acclaim with her songs. Again at İsmet İnönü Art Center, the exhibition “Zübeyde Hanım Through the Eyes of Children”, consisting of pictures and letters of children who participated in the workshops of the Children's Youth Center, met with the visitors. The workshop participants of the Children's Youth Center, Bedir Husidur, Irmak Altın, Hiranur Akın, Defne Şık and Betül Emergency, went out and read the letters they had written to Ms. Zübeyde. Head of Social Projects Department Anıl Kaçar, Women's Studies Branch Manager Emel Dönmez and Children's Municipality Branch Manager Uğur Özyaşar presented the children with certificates of appreciation for their participation in the event.

The activities continued with the theatrical performance of writer İlknur Güntürkün Kalıpçı.
