Women’s Self-Defense Workshop, organized in cooperation with IBB Sports Istanbul and IBB Women, was held at Haldun Alagaş Sports Complex. Approximately 130 women participated in the event organized within the scope of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November.
The workshop, organized with the joint work of Spor Istanbul, one of the subsidiaries of IMM, and IBB Women, was titled “Realize, Abandon, Report!” With the slogan, it aimed to recognize different forms of violence against women, to recognize the risks in daily life and to learn basic self-defense techniques. Participants were made aware of the threats they may encounter in their daily lives.
At the opening of the event, İBB Sports Istanbul Deputy General Manager Neslihan Uçar Çadırcıand other officials emphasized the need for training for a safe city and stated that the workshops would be expanded to reach all districts and the public. Our aim is for women to be able to recognize violence in all its aspects and to apply when necessary; This process should be spread to a wider base so that it is not limited.
With our work aimed at reaching women in every corner of Istanbul, cities empowered by women will be more free and full of hope.
Basic Self-Defense Movements Were Taught Practically
In the workshop, which started with a warm-up and introduction, participants discussed different forms of violence with daily examples and increased risk awareness. Then, comprehensive information was shared on the steps to be followed in case of violence, existing legal rights and application mechanisms. In the practical section, accompanied by instructors, basic self-defense movements were taught to the participants, while theoretical knowledge was reinforced with practical experiences.
