Progress Made on Gulf of Mexico Train Project

In line with Mexico’s goal of improving passenger mobility and revitalizing long-distance rail services, Gulf of Mexico Train (Tren del Golfo)The project continues to progress. As part of the project, construction teams have now started working on a key corridor.

New Section and Infrastructure Details

The project follows the existing CPKC freight corridor. 133.5 km between Arroyo El Sauz and Nuevo Laredofocuses on the section. Engineers specifically designed the new line passenger flightsand adding transit rings and crossings to maintain train traffic.

Stations:New stations will be built on the new line in Nuevo Laredo, Anáhuac and Lampazos de Naranjo.

Construction Load:Crews also need to build 52 bridges and 42 level crossings.

Entire Corridor:This entire corridor, connecting Saltillo, Monterrey and the US border, will be 393.9 km long and in 2028It is aimed to open.

National Railway Plan and Travel Times

The Mexican Government is including this corridor in the first phase of the National Rail Plan. The plan is nationwide more than 3,400 kmIt aims to put passenger trains back into service on the existing main line. One of the other projects at the same stage covers the 107.8 km section between Querétaro and Irapuato.

Planners say these passenger trains 160 to 200 km/hwaiting for it to reach speed. Thanks to these speeds:

These significant time reductions will make rail transport a practical and attractive alternative for travelers in the region.
