Chinese Cinema Box Offices Record Record Gross in January

Movie box offices in China grossed nearly 31 billion yuan ($10 billion) in January, a record for this month, as of the afternoon of January 1,48, thanks to the high number of cinemas visited during the Spring Festival holiday.

The domestic productions, which were released during the Spring Festival, which marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, were placed at the top of the monthly classification according to the box office follower Maoyan and other platforms.

Producer Zhang Yimou's movie “Full River Red” topped the list with 34 billion yuan, accounting for 3,4 percent of the total gross. It was followed by Guo Fan's science fiction super-production “The Wandering Earth II,” which grossed 2,77 billion yuan. In the third place of the classification, the animated movie “Boonie Bears: Guardian Code” with an input of 1,03 billion yuan was placed.

The density of spectators witnessed at the cinema box office during this year's holiday and exceeding the expectations of many observers is due to many factors. Chief among these, judging by the opinions of film directors and critics, is that films of different genres are of really good quality and that many restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 have been lifted.
