The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues its inspections on poaching in fisheries. In 2022, the teams carried out a total of 199 inspections and imposed a penalty of 702 million TL.

Fisheries and Aquaculture teams within the Ministry are increasing their measures against poaching. The teams fight illegal fishing activities to ensure sustainable aquaculture.

In order to control compliance with the regulations brought for the protection and sustainable operation of fisheries resources, in the seas, inland waters, landing points, transport routes, fishing vessels, fish markets, fishmeal-oil factories and retail outlets, both within the annual routine program and based on notification. Inspections are carried out on a 7/24 basis.

The Coast Guard Command also contributes to the teams that carried out a total of 2022 inspections in 199 within the scope of preventing illegal hunting. In these inspections, 702 tons of fishery products obtained through poaching were confiscated, and an administrative fine of 480 million 8 thousand liras was imposed on 21 thousand 37 people and workplaces engaged in illegal fishing activities and selling them.

In addition, 169 ships were seized, which did not have a fishing license and did not hunt in accordance with the rules, depriving the fishermen of the rough waters of the sea with the sweat of their brows by obeying the rules.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Vahit Kirişci underlined that natural resources are not endless and drew attention to the importance of sustainability in aquaculture.

Calling to protect the aquaculture resources and ecosystem in the seas and inland waters together, Kirişci said, “Within the scope of the sustainability of fisheries, our inspections will continue resolutely throughout the fishing season as it was during the hunting ban period. Thus, we prevent illegal fishing from usurping the rights of our real fishermen who hunt according to the rules. With the authorization we have obtained from the law, we monitor the fishing activities of fishing vessels with a length of 12 meters and above. In this way, we protect the rights of our fishermen who abide by the rules, and we do not open their eyes to those who engage in illegal fishing.” used the phrases.
