The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provides a 15 million Euro loan to Akkim Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Akkim) in Turkey to finance the establishment of the first local epoxy resin production facility in Yalova.

The loan will enable Akkim to produce liquid epoxy resin (LER), solid epoxy resin (SER) and epichlorohydrin (ECH) with an annual production capacity of 68.000 tons. When the facility is completed, Akkim will be the first producer of epoxy resin in Turkey, which is imported up to 50.000 tons every year.

Replacing propylene with glycerol as the main raw material in ECH production, the new plant will contribute to the circular economy through the use of renewable raw materials (glycerol is a byproduct of biodiesel production) and reduce the environmental impact of traditional ECH. production from fossil resources and expanding the biodiesel value chain across the region.

Established in Yalova in 1977, Akkim manufactures and sells chemical products serving the cleaning, hygiene, water treatment, textile, paper, construction, plastic, food, metal, energy, detergent, drilling, mining and chemistry sectors.

EBRD financing will allow Akkim to diversify its client base in new sectors including aerospace, renewable energy and electronics.

The EBRD is one of Turkey's leading institutional investors. Since 2009, the Bank has invested more than €16,9 billion in various sectors of the country's economy, with almost all of the investment being made in the private sector.
