Harran University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has carried out another important scientific study. An ELISA kit was developed for the serological diagnosis of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) in Poultry by faculty members of the Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

As a result of the studies carried out within the scope of Harran University Scientific Research Projects, laboratory studies were completed for the diagnosis of Mycoplasma gallisepticum infections and a domestic kit was developed.

“Developed diagnostic kit gives results in a short time”

The most important feature that distinguishes the developed kit from the others is that it was prepared with a domestic strain and the specificity of the test was determined as 96% and the sensitivity as 98%, and the kit was put into use in the field.

In the studies carried out within the scope of Harran University Scientific Research Projects, Faculty Members of Veterinary Faculty Prof. Dr. Sevil Erdenlig Gurbilek, Prof. Dr. Oktay Keskin, Prof. Dr. Osman Yasar Tel, Dr. Instructor Member Ahmet Murat Saytekin and Res. See. Ayfer Güllü Yücetepe took part.

Various imported kits are used in the serological diagnosis of poultry diseases in Turkey. Since these kits are imported, they are a burden on the country's economy. The ELISA kit, which was prepared as a result of the project initiated by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to produce a domestic ELISA kit, has been standardized and the license stage has been reached to commercialize it for use in the field.

The diagnostic kit, developed in the Microbiology Laboratories of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, will be used in the diagnosis of Chronic Respiratory Disease caused by the highly contagious M. gallisepticum, which is seen in many countries of the world and causes serious economic losses such as low meat and egg production in chickens, turkeys and chickens.

The domestic diagnostic kit, which will make a great contribution to the country's economy, is planned to be used throughout the country after field studies.
