Construction Sector Expects Housing Loans with Affordable Rates

İZTO Board Member and MÜFED President İsmail Kahraman drew attention to the stagnation in the construction sector due to cost increases and difficulties in material supply.

Expressing that the constantly increasing construction costs due to high inflation have also increased the housing prices, Kahraman said that he decided to hold off their investments because many contractors could not see the way forward.

Noting that the citizens expect bank loans with long-term favorable conditions, İsmail Kahraman said, “The cost increases of up to 200% due to high inflation in recent years caused an economic contraction in the construction sector. Since many contractors could not see the way forward, they decided to hold their investments. Because the costs he started to build and the prices he delivered were not at the same rate. According to the figures released by TUIK, the increase in the cost of building construction is over 100%. With this; There is an increase of nearly 2023% in the construction cost costs prepared within the scope of the property tax law for 50 compared to the previous year. The purchasing power of the citizens did not increase at the same rate. Therefore, this situation caused stagnation in sales. Certain restrictions should be imposed on the export of products such as iron, cement and glass, which are the most important consumables of the construction industry. Inspections should be tightened in order to prevent unfair competition in products supplied to the domestic market. The economic support that will relieve the citizens and contractors should also be increased," he said.

Emphasizing that as the Contractors' Federation, their members have been struggling for an organized structure for years, İsmail Kahraman noted that they will participate in the Professional Committee election of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce to be held on 3 October.

Stating that they continue to work for the development of the Izmir construction industry, Kahraman continued: “The movement we started in Izmir has created an important synergy for the industry in Turkey. We brought MÜFED to life with 17 Contractors and Businessmen's Associations that we established in İzmir districts. Later, we established the IMKON (Construction Contractors) Confederation with the federations established in Turkey. We ensured the establishment of the Builders' Assembly at TOBB. We served our members by taking part in the contractors committee, which was the 67th Professional Committee last term, representing our sector in the Izmir Chamber of Commerce. We have made important contributions to the problems of our members with the struggle we have started for years and the spirit of unity and solidarity that has been caught. Mr. Mahmut Özgener, who was elected as the chairman of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce from our professional committee, and my participation in the management of İZTO has been beneficial in solving the problems of our sector. Once again, we ask for support from our members in the elections of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Professional Committee to be held on October 03, 2022. We expect our members to take care of their rooms and come to the polls on election day and cast their votes.”
