The World Premiere of the Immigration Symphony 'Dark Waters' Was Held in Istanbul

Composed by master artist Fuat Saka and arranged by musician Vangelis Zografos, the work 'Migration Symphony – Dark Waters' had its world premiere in Istanbul. Speaking before the premiere, İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu“The world is big enough for all of us. As long as we defend peace, brotherhood and equality. Let's sing songs of peace and brotherhood together, as it will be here today. Let our voices drown out the voices of those who want war," he said.

“Migration Symphony – Dark Waters” composed by master musician Fuat Saka met with the audience. The world premiere of the work, which was composed by Saka and arranged by Vangelis Zografos, reflecting migration and its effects, one of the most important issues of humanity throughout history, was held at the Harbiye Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre. CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan Kaftancıoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem İmamoğlu, Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker, CHP deputy Akif Hamzaçebi and the unforgettable actor of Turkish Cinema Kadir İnanır also listened to Saka's “symphonic work” with the people of Istanbul. Watching the concert with his wife Dilek İmamoğlu and his children Selim İmamoğlu and Beren İmamoğlu, İmamoğlu made a short speech before the premiere.

“WE ARE AT A VERY SPECIAL MEETING”

Stating that the name Fuat Saka has a very special and different meaning for him, İmamoğlu said, “Today, we are here at a very special meeting, which he and his friends revealed. Migration has been one of the most important agendas of humanity throughout history. Migrations have changed and transformed the world. Sometimes it has positive effects such as the fusion of different cultures and the spread of new developments to the world, but on the other hand, it has also led to conflicts, destructions, deaths and suffering. When we look at the causes of migration throughout history, we see many reasons such as wars, oppression, climate change, hunger, famine and disasters. Those who have limited opportunities to live in their own homeland, on their lands, embark on new and often very difficult journeys in search of a better life.

“WE OBSERVED WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE PROCESS IS NOT MANAGED WELL”

Pointing out that there are great sufferings and wars in our nearby geography, İmamoğlu said, “People have to migrate to different countries, leaving their homes, cities, and even their loved ones behind, and take shelter. Great tragedies and traumas continue to happen. We also host many immigrants in Istanbul and Turkey. Unfortunately, we can closely observe what happens when there is no well-planned migration policy, when adaptation strategies are not developed, when a socio-economic infrastructure is not established, that is, when the process is not managed well.”

“MUSIC HEALS WOUNDS, HEALS TRAUMA”

Emphasizing the necessity of fighting for the elimination of problems such as war, hunger, inequality, inequality in income distribution, global climate change caused by migration and migration, İmamoğlu said:

“The world is big enough for all of us. As long as we defend peace, brotherhood and equality. Let us want for our neighbor what we want for ourselves. Let's sing the songs of peace and brotherhood in unison, as it will be here today. Let our voice drown out the voices of those who want war. Music is a powerful, universal language. It wraps wounds, heals traumas, brings differences together. The unifying power of art is our most valuable asset in the struggle for peace. In this respect, I find it very valuable that the artists of the two countries with a history of migration, Fuat Saka, Cihan Yurtçu and Turkish musicians, their Greek colleagues arranger Vangelis Zografos, conductor Anastasios Symeonidis, soloists Ioanna Forti and Zacharias Spyridakis come together on the same stage to perform a migration symphony. I would like to express my gratitude to Fuat Saka and everyone who contributed to the 'Migration Symphony - Dark Waters' concert. I wish with all my heart that peace and tranquility will prevail all over the world.”

Artist Saka and his musician friends, who came to the stage after İmamoğlu's speech, gave the audience a night full of music.
