IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluhosted Vasyl Bodnar, Ankara Ambassador of Ukraine, who is at war with Russia, and Roman Nedilskiy, Istanbul Consul General, together with their spouses. Emphasizing that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's understanding of 'Peace at home, peace in the world' is also valid for Ukraine, Ambassador Bodnar presented İmamoğlu with a list of humanitarian aid materials they needed. “As a country established after many wars, we say that; Saying that the most valuable philosophy is peace at home and a life in which peace is established in the world, İmamoğlu gave instructions to his assistants to start the work on the list submitted by Bodnar.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluhosted Vasyl Bodnar, Ankara Ambassador of Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, and Roman Nedilskiy, Consul General in Istanbul. Bodnar and Nedilskiy attended the meeting with their spouses at the Beyaz Köşk in Sarıyer Emirgan Grove. Emphasizing that the war between Ukraine and Russia does not suit the century we are in, İmamoğlu said, “It is unacceptable for a country to invade a country in 2022 and describe it as a legitimate movement, regardless of the subject or subject. We are sea neighbors with both countries. We have historical, very old ties. Therefore, I express all the sentences we have formed on a world scale, with my universal feelings. At this point, I would like to express that I am against this occupation and stand with the Ukrainian people.”

İMAMOĞLU: “WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE HUMANITARIAN AID WE CAN”

Expressing that he met with the mayors of Kyiv and Odessa in the first days of the war, İmamoğlu said, “At this point, we sent 3 trucks of humanitarian aid support to the border to be delivered to Odessa in the first place. Of course, we acted with the relevant institutions of Turkey there. Afterwards, I personally delivered our 10 trucks of materials regarding the needs of refugees in Warsaw and our Ukrainian citizens, by working with the Warsaw Municipality, and I personally delivered them to Warsaw and visited Ukrainian families there. Stating that they will continue to provide humanitarian aid in case of demand, İmamoğlu said, “As the Republic of Turkey; We all know that our government, despite everything, is on the side of a reconciliation, a peace treaty.” Emphasizing that peace should be established as soon as possible, İmamoğlu said, “I wish that people who had to leave their country live in peace in their own country as soon as possible. We want you to know that this is our language, attitude and view on this issue. As a country established after many wars, we say that; The most valuable philosophy is a life in which peace at home and peace in the world are established.”

BODNAR: “THANK YOU FOR YOUR HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT”

Emphasizing that he agrees with İmamoğlu's quote from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Ambassador Bodnar also used the following statements:

“This is a very valuable philosophy. I would like to express that 'Peace at home, peace in the world' also applies to Ukrainians and I share them. We are good neighbors. The Black Sea unites us. We have slight differences in language and customs. They do not separate us. We are a nation very similar to each other. If I had the opportunity to meet with you more, maybe I could improve my Turkish more. It is a great honor for me to meet with the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality of a wonderful city like Istanbul, and to have me accepted. And Istanbul really played an important mediation role. May this war result in a peace. And if this Istanbul Treaty goes down in history, I personally would be very pleased. I also thank you for your humanitarian support. Indeed, Ukrainians have many basic needs. We need the most medical supplies right now.”

After his speech, Bodnar presented İmamoğlu with the list of humanitarian aid materials they needed. İmamoğlu instructed his assistants to start the work on the list submitted by Bodnar.
