It is our greatest interest to provide the highest quality service to the people of Istanbul. We want to bring a quality, controllable taxi system to Istanbul. The way to do this is through institutionalization. Taxi service improves when there is institutionalization in countries with individual operators, as is the case with good examples in the world.

ITAKSI Awaits APPROVAL FROM IMM ASSEMBLY

Emphasizing that 85 percent of the taxis in Istanbul have the İTaxi application installed free of charge by the IMM, Demir continued his words as follows;

“The iTaxi application will be mandatory in all taxis. This method will improve the quality of taxis in Istanbul. We submitted the application to the IMM Assembly in February 2021 to determine the tariffs, but it was rejected by a majority vote. We presented the issue to the IMM Assembly again. The report has been kept in the IMM Assembly commissions for 6 months. iTaxi application upon approval; It will become a control mechanism that controls data such as routes and fares over other applications used by taxis. But unfortunately that is not allowed,” he said.

IMM'S AUDITING AUTHORITY IS LIMITED

Stating that İBB continues its inspection works within its authority, Demir reminded that before the Eid al-Adha, the licenses of 400 vehicles working at Istanbul Airport were temporarily suspended because they did not use the correct device. He reminded that the Ministry of Industry and Technology made inspections and fined after the complaints that different fares were charged for the same distances. Addressing Eyüp Aksu, the President of the Istanbul Taxi Drivers' Chamber, Demir said, "Your taxi is in this."

UTKU CIHAN: “NUMBER OF DRIVERS 250 THOUSAND, TRAINING GIVEN 3 THOUSAND”

Utku Cihan, Head of Transportation Department of IMM, stated that the municipality's possession of 1.000 taxis will enable it to manage the system better and prevent the formation of license plate rent, and used the following statements about the trainings given by IMM in the past;

“The number of all public transportation drivers in Istanbul is 250 thousand. On the other hand, only 2018 thousand of the total trainings given in 2019 and 3. Only 1.700 of them are taxi drivers. While the issue of education is so clear, it is not right to say that the problems will be solved by giving education.”
