Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme Commuter Line Tender Canceled

TCDD canceled the tender for the renewal of the old suburban railway line between Sirkeci and Kazlıçeşme upon the forgetting of the Maintenance Workshop to be included in the tender dossier. The lack of competition in the tender was also effective in canceling the tender.

Serving as an important public transportation vehicle for 1955 years between 2013-58 in Istanbul, Sirkeci-Halkalı the railway line ended with the Marmaray project. Marmaray, which crosses the Bosphorus by tunnel and comes to the surface in Kazlıçeşme, HalkalıThe old line is being renewed to continue. The 8 km old line between Sirkeci and Kazlıçeşme remained idle.

The news in Habertürk is as follows: On 26 June 2018, TCDD opened the tender for "Renovation of the Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme Superficial Line Construction Work". According to the news of Mehmet Demirkaya, the tender was canceled while the result was expected to be announced. In the cancellation decision dated August 6, 2018, it was said:

“It was decided to cancel the tender due to the fact that Sirkeci Maintenance Workshop, which is within the scope of the Board of Directors decision, is not included in the tender dossier, as well as two firms bid for the tender, one of the offers is above the approximate cost, and therefore there is no competitive environment and the public interest is considered.

The historical Sirkeci Station, built in 1888, came to the agenda after the Marmaray Project. The arrangement of the idle Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme as a park was also discussed. During the presidency of Kadir Topbaş, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality made a decision from the City Council to take over the line in TCDD with a protocol.

According to the specifications of the renovation tender opened by TCDD, some stations of the old line were shifted. For example, the old Kocamustafapaşa Station would be brought closer to the hospital in Samatya and its name would be “Samatya Station”.
