Nahıl New Year Festival in Istanbul—This year’s meeting, which brings the production of women’s cooperatives directly to the consumer, welcomes its visitors at Galataport Istanbul Clock Tower Square between 17-21 December. Handmade products of 44 provinces and hundreds of women’s cooperatives from the earthquake zone are staged with a wide range of products, from New Year’s gifts to home textiles, from natural food to ceramics.
This festival, carried out in cooperation with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Foundation for the Evaluation of Women and Women’s Labor (Oxfam KEDV), aims to enable women’s cooperatives to generate direct income and to grow the solidarity economy. This vision is not just a shopping event; It also stands out as a concrete step for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
What’s on at the Festival?
The products included in the festival focus on handicraft and local production. Gifts, textile products, jewelry and accessories, home textiles, natural food products and ceramics designed and produced by women are opening their doors. In addition, it offers geographical richness to visitors with geographically indicated and local products, flavors such as Hatay kömbesi, bitter orange jam, Adıyaman fruit pulp and Malatya dried apricots.
- Souvenirs: carefully selected designs that carry a story with their context or culture.
- Textile: fabrics produced with traditional techniques, modern elegance blended with notes and patterns.
- Jewelry and Accessories: natural stones, recyclable materials and original designs.
- Home Textiles: quality-oriented products suitable for daily use, such as curtains, tablecloths, pillow cases.

Social and Economic Impact
The festival acts with the aim of women’s economic empowerment. While cooperatives reach large audiences with the products they display, customers also become a part of supporting local production. The concept of solidarity economy appears as a concrete practice in this event; The direct relationship between the consumer and the producer, sales without intermediaries and fair wages are examples of this.
Coordination and Support
The fact that the festival is hosted by Galataport Istanbul increases the global reach and visitor flow at the center. IBB Women’s coordination support strengthens the sustainability of the organization and allows participating women to deliver their products to wider audiences. This cooperation contributes to regional economic revitalization by transforming city resources into local production.
Visiting Hours and Location
The event will be open to visitors between 17 December and 21 December, every day between 10.00 and 21.00. Located in Galataport Istanbul’s Clock Tower Square, the exhibition area offers an easily accessible and safe shopping experience for visitors. In this context, a colorful and rich experience where city life and traditional production meet is promised.
Rating and Quality Assurance
The safety and quality of the products are prioritized throughout the event. Each of the women’s cooperatives maintains a responsible approach to the products they produce. In this process, quality control, compliance with legal regulations and hygiene standards are meticulously applied. Transparent pricing and descriptive labels for visitors support a safe shopping experience.
Energetic and Inspiring Experience
Nahıl New Year Festival is not just a shopping destination; It is also a platform for women to share their success stories. Producer women share their work and design processes with visitors and provide inspiring talks and demonstrations on topics such as sustainability, contribution to the local economy and the importance of female leadership. This experience gives visitors the feeling of being part of a community, not just buying a product.
Broad Perspective for the Future
This year’s festival is not just an impulse shopping festival; It also aims to create long-term effects. While the production capacity and marketing skills of women’s cooperatives are strengthening, the brand values of local products are also increasing. The festival serves as an example for the implementation of similar models in other cities and aims to support the participation of more women in the economy by spreading to a wider geography in the future.
