The opening date of Buca Metro, which will start a new era in Izmir’s transport and which the city residents are eagerly waiting for, has been announced. According to the statement made by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, the metro line is planned to be put into service within 2 years.
Buca Metro will relieve city traffic
The metro line under construction in Buca, one of the most crowded and highly congested districts of Izmir, stands out as a strategic project that will significantly relieve the city traffic when completed. The project is also planned to be integrated with the Onat Tunnel and connection roads extending towards Bornova. This integration is expected to greatly facilitate urban transport and reduce traffic congestion on main arteries. Buca Metro will play a key role in increasing the capacity and efficiency of Izmir’s public transport network.
Mayor Tugay: Tunnel Excavations Will Be Completed Next Year
In his speech at the opening of Izmar’s 13th branch in Buca, Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay shared important information about the current status and timetable of the project. Mayor Tugay stated a concrete target for the progress of the project: “Next year we will finish the tunnel excavations completely. 2 years later, the metro line will be put into service,” he said.
This announcement, while providing the people of Izmir with a precise timeframe for the completion of the project, confirmed the expectation that the project will enter service in 2027 (two years later than the current date). With the commissioning of the Buca Metro, hundreds of thousands of citizens living in Buca are expected to have faster and more comfortable access to the city centre and other districts.
