In the port city of Naples, a new series of CAF trains has entered service on Line 11 (assumed to be the Circumflegrea line, no Line 11 information provided), operated by the local transport authority Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV). This is an important step in modernising the city’s railway line and investing in sustainable urban mobility.
New Fleet Focused on High Capacity and Comfort
EAV has put three CAF Inneo trains into service, each with six carriages. by the end of 2026, seven more trains are expected to enter service. The new trains, each 107.7 metres long, have a high carrying capacity of 1,200 people, including 130 seated passengers.
The Inneo series produced by CAF includes advanced systems that prioritise passenger comfort and safety. The trains have full passageways, areas reserved for wheelchair users, effective lighting and air conditioning systems. Also noteworthy are interior fittings with environmentally friendly technologies that will help reduce emissions.
100 Million Euro Agreement and EU Support
This latest delivery is part of the contract EAV signed with CAF in 2020, which includes the purchase of four trains and an option to purchase six more. The total value of this agreement was €100 million, of which €60 million was provided by the Italian government through the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR).
This initiative is closely linked to the EU framework, which aims to provide environmentally friendly urban mobility in Southern Italy, which will help Naples to increase service intervals and reduce CO₂ emissions. CAF had previously delivered a total of 24 Inneo trains to the Naples Metro network in 2017. The smooth operation of the new fleet increases confidence in CAF’s technological progress.
