As part of its efforts to modernise urban transport, PT MRT Jakarta has taken an important step forward for Phase Two of the Jakarta Metro North-South (NS) Line. The company signed an agreement on 21 October 2025 with a consortium of Japanese companies Sumitomo and Nippon Sharyo to provide eight train sets of six wagons. With a total value of USD 111.8 million, this delivery is expected to take 56 months.

The new train sets will have advanced features that will increase comfort and safety for passengers:
- Security Advanced safety systems.
- Comfort: Efficient air conditioning systems.
