Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement about the snow fighting efforts carried out on highways, railways and airports. Minister Uraloğlu said, “A total of 18 thousand 407 personnel and 14 thousand 263 vehicles are on duty in air, land and railways to combat snow. Our teams work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and carry out checks.” He made a statement.
“DHMİ has approximately 800 personnel and a total of 463 state-of-the-art vehicles.”
Noting that all precautions have been taken against snowfall and cold weather conditions at the airports, Minister Uraloğlu said, “Approximately 800 personnel and a total of 463 state-of-the-art vehicles are ready for work to combat snow and prevent icing within the State Airports Authority (DHMİ). Our teams intervene quickly when necessary to prevent aviation activities from being disrupted. The work we carry out to combat snow and prevent icing at our airports operated by DHMI. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the majority of flight operations at airports where the winter season is rainy and temperatures frequently drop below zero degrees consist of snow fighting operations, and said, “We are clearing the Runway-Apron-Taxiway areas from snow and ice in order to ensure safe landing and take-off of aircraft in intense winter conditions and to carry out aviation activities safely.” he said.
4 Thousand Personnel Work in the Field 24/7 in Railways
Minister Uraloğlu gave information about the measures taken in railways and stated that they established coordination centers in TCDD General Directorate and nine Regional Directorates. Uraloğlu said, “Through the centers, we monitor weather events in real time and determine the precautions that need to be taken. We quickly direct our mobile teams working in the provinces in line with the decisions taken.” he said.
Noting that the teams work uninterruptedly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the 13 thousand 919 kilometer railway network, Uraloğlu continued his words as follows:
“Our teams are clearing the snow accumulated by plowing along the line, opening the switch areas and continuing line controls uninterruptedly. Within the scope of combating snow, a total of 914 technical vehicles, including rotary snow plows, snowplows and emergency response vehicles, are available on the railways, along with approximately 4 thousand personnel.”
12 thousand 886 machines and equipment, 13 thousand 607 personnel on the highway
Minister Uraloğlu noted that the teams will continue their work to combat snow and ice on the highways so that citizens can travel in a comfortable and traffic safe environment. Uraloğlu said, “These works will be carried out on the road network throughout the country, through 457 snow fighting centers, with 12 thousand 886 machines and equipment and 13 thousand 607 personnel.” he said.
930 Kilometers of Snow Trench Was Built
Explaining that 757 thousand tons of salt, 453 thousand cubic meters of salt aggregate and 12 thousand tons of salt solution for critical sections are stored in snow fighting centers to be used in the works, Uraloğlu said, “930 kilometers of snow trenches have been built in the sections of our roads where the traffic flow becomes difficult or closed due to blizzard and breeze. In the snow fighting centers, route analysis, snow fighting works, opened and closed roads and instant traffic are monitored from our smart transportation centers via monitors.” he said.
Minister Uraloğlu said that route analysis, snow fighting efforts, opened and closed roads and instant traffic are monitored in smart transportation centers via real-time traffic monitors in snow fighting centers. “Weather and road conditions are monitored by the General Directorate of Highways and Regional Centers through fixed cameras located at important crossings. 1,700 snow fighting vehicles assigned to critical sections are tracked with cameras and 6 thousand snow fighting vehicles are tracked by the Vehicle Tracking System. In this way, an effective snow fight is carried out.” he said.
