The French aerospace company Dassault Aviation has reached a significant milestone in its successful Rafale fighter jet program. The company announced that it has completed production of the 300th Rafale fighter jet at its manufacturing facilities in France. This achievement underscores the Rafale’s status as a critical platform favored by both France and international customers.

Global Demand and Increasing Production Pace

To date, the Rafale has been selected by France and eight other countries. The program has demonstrated its strength in the global market by securing a total of 533 firm orders. With 233 aircraft currently awaiting delivery, Dassault Aviation is planning to increase its production rate to meet this high demand. The company aims to ramp up production to four aircraft per month.

Conducted under the supervision of the French Directorate General of Armaments, the Rafale program brings together 400 French companies and is recognized as one of the cornerstones of the country’s industrial and military sovereignty.

France’s New-Generation Rafale F5 Standard and UAV Initiative

In line with its goal of continuously developing the Rafale program, France has also defined the aircraft’s future standards. In October 2024, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that development had begun on the Rafale F5 standard—set to enter service after 2030 —and a new armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to complement it.

According to a statement from Dassault Aviation, this new UCAV—which will operate in conjunction with the Rafale—will possess the following critical capabilities:

Low radar signature. Autonomous control. Internal weapons bay. Capability to be controlleddirectly from the Rafale cockpit

Strategic Investment in Nuclear Deterrence

During a visit in March, French President Emmanuel Macron outlined plans to modernize the aerial component of the country’s nuclear deterrent. As part of this effort, it was confirmed that France will order new F5-standard Rafale fighter jets in the coming years.

Macron announced that the future ASN4G hypersonic nuclear missile will be deployed to the Luxeuil-les-Bains Air Base in eastern France by 2035. An investment of 1.5 billion euros (1.6 billion dollars) will be made in the base for this strategic transformation. As part of this transformation, two squadrons of Rafale F5-standard fighter jets will be assigned to the base, making it the first base to host the new generation of Rafales equipped with hypersonic nuclear missiles by 2035. These decisions reinforce the Rafale’s central role in France’s national defense strategy.
