Türk Sağlık-Sen: Tax Bracket Injustice Must Be Ended!

Türk Sağlık-Sen Kocaeli Branch President Ömer Çeker, in his statement after his visit to Family Physicians and Family Health Workers working in FHCs, said: "The chronic problems of Family Physicians and Family Health Workers should be solved.

Pointing out that another problem that reduces the salaries of public employees, who are sentenced to a raise equal to the inflation rate, that is, a zero raise, is the injustice in the tax bracket, Çeker said, “Public employees are clearly victimized by income tax deductions of up to 27 percent, and their wages are destroyed. Our family physicians and family health workers working in Family Health Centers (FHC) entered the tax bracket in March. Approximately 4 to 5 Thousand TL for Family Physicians working in ASM in March. Approximately 1500 to 2000 TL from Family Health Workers. Their wages have decreased by deducting taxes. Everyone should pay the taxes, but this tax oppression against public employees must also be stopped. Punishing public employees who pay their taxes regularly should be abandoned. "While situations such as tax amnesty, tax regulation and tax exemption are provided for some professions and jobs, we also want the demands of public employees regarding income tax to be listened to," he said.

Underlining that they want the income tax of public employees to be fixed at 15 percent, as stated by Chairman Önder Kahveci, Mayor Çeker said, "In order to ensure justice and equity, it is essential to make an adjustment in the income tax tariff of public employees. The majority of income tax collections are made from employees." . A regulation must be enacted for civil servants in order to distribute income fairly and alleviate the tax burden. One of the reasons why we do not accept the collective agreement signed in August 2023, which determines the salary increase and social rights of public employees for 2024 and 2025, is that our request regarding the tax bracket is ignored and the issues of compensation for losses arising from the tax bracket are not accepted. The tax bracket issue is one of the main issues awaiting solution for public employees. We want steps to be taken in this regard. "We will continue to raise this issue on all platforms and fight for a solution so that the labor and sweat of the employee is not wasted in my tax bracket and a reasonable taxation system is implemented," he said.

In his written statement, Çeker said, “Our call is to carry out efforts to eliminate the grievances of economic workers. In addition to the monthly payment of the additional raise and inflation difference, it is our request on behalf of the ASM employees to make legal arrangements to fix the tax bracket and to end the deductions from the salaries of the Family Physicians and Family Health Workers working in the ASM, if they go on annual leave or cannot find someone to take care of them when they get sick.” said.
